Worst of the week is over.

Just in case anyone thought I didn't have enough projects going, I started another one last night. But it's a little one, just a knitted silk necktie. The yarn was spun last September, was in last October's show as yarn, so now I can put it in this year's show made into something. The natural silk color is sort of beeswax yellow, much too bright I think. Not that I ever wear neckties, I don't even own one, but my brother does so he'll probably get it as a gift after the show is over. That means I'll have to dye it, so here's a poll on the colors I'm considering:

Umm, no. Not for my brother. Though I might do tie-dye for myself. ;p

The choice of necktie color depends hugely on the color of the suit an shirt it's to go with! if you're wearing an all cotton white or cream summer jacket, the beeswax serves perfectly. For a regular charcoal or even a dark blue office suit, red or burgundy is nowadays the norm, having seen a resurgence in the last decade.
Forest green is a bold choice. It's eye-catching in combination with a lighter grey office suit, and absolutely courageous if worn with a black shirt instead of a white.
Dark blue on a regular light grey office suit is a nice, modern choice too. It'll depend on the cut of the suit, though, in respect to the shape of your body.

Endless choices :)

Thanks for the confirmation. I had an idea you might be up on these things. Having lived in farm country for the past decade I'm quite out of touch with big city fashion, but I had figured either a dark red shade or a deep blue would be safe. (He's far more conservative than I am.)

I'm partial to blue in clothing, but I do like to be surrounded by the green of summer foliage. It's very calming. The view from my tiny studio window is that way right now, all oak trees and grass.

Thought of you last night on the way home from work as I had to slow to a dead stop on the road for a doe and twin fawns. They nearly crossed in front of me and then decided not to do it, so I had to creep past lest they change their minds again. Very bold, they stared at me and bounced alongside the car to keep me in sight. I hope they don't encounter someone else who doesn't slow down.

That is so cute. Sadly (in the UK at least) cars are the number one predator of fawns. :(

Hopefully they will learn quickly.

I am not sure why green is my favourite colour. Probably because my first towel was green. o.O

*hugs a big clyde*

That reminds me...I saw something that made me think of YOU the other day....well..you and [livejournal.com profile] pakesh_de.

Oooh, thanks. I haven't seen that one. Budweiser is terrible beer, but I like those commercials. Since I never watch TV, the only way I see them is on the net.

*hugs* Well, wuffy, you at least have a real excuse for being confused by color fashions. My only excuse is disinterest. ;p

And it was a perfect place to slip in a Monty Python quote! :D

I'm partial to dark blue or forest green, actually...buy yes, being color-blind does kind of reduce your ability to dress well...which is why I stick to black jeans and a solid-color shirt (safe that way).

Maroon -AND- natural yellow, stiped on a diagonal.

Heh. That's a yuppie "power tie" from the Reagan era. I don't doubt he's already got a few of those, actually. Stripes aren't practical in this case, though. I am knitting the tie from undyed yarn (it's half done already) and will dye the entire piece at once. A solid color is all I intend to do. I'd been thinking maroon, but I see the overwhelming vote is for green or maybe blue. Silk dyes easily and takes the dye very well, so I can probably make it any color I choose.

Kitty being a short type likes those thin ties common in Japan and in the 80's here :)

That's pretty much the style of this one. Squared off at the ends, about 5 cm. wide at one and and 4 cm. at the other. The knitting is done to make a subtle chevron pattern in it, with kinda nubbly edges, as knit ties often have. It's going to be nice.
