Still humid, though the temperature was lower today. Asher's cough seems to be subsiding, which is good. evidently the medicine just took a couple of days to kick in.

Decided not to go to the county fair tonight, because we'd arrive in the midst of the big grandstand entertainment act which doesn't interest us at all but does attract a lot of extra crowd probably. We plan to go tomorrow instead.

The jerk who gave me a hard time on the phone yesterday morning called back in the afternoon and gave someone else the same hard time, insisting that we had "no right" to be closed when he wanted us to be open for his convenience, that he was a taxpayer, etc. The time has come to offer him a dime and say "Here's your share of my salary back, now I don't owe you anything so get out."

Listening to Jim Dale's audiobook version of HP #4 in the car on the way to and from work reminds me how much of the story they cut out when making the film of it. More than half, I'd say, including the whole thing about house elves at Hogwarts and Hermione's SPEW organization. In the films house elves are just weird little critters and you get no sense of the complex history and social interactions behind what they are.

Just got Fur-Piled vol. 2 and Heat #4 in the mail from Sofawolf. Good stuff, but I have work to do before I can really read them.

I've never been particularly enthusiastic about interacting with the general public (either on the roads or in stores, whatever), but lately, it seems to be getting exponentially worse. People have just become completely self-centered, rude, and belligerent.

I'm afraid I'm on the fast train to becoming a hermit.

In many ways, I've already been one for years. Americans have always been bad about that "I want everything my way and you have no right to deny me" attitude, though. It's just been more obvious since the Reagan years.

I, too, am really tired of the attitude "whatever I want, I deserve" that a lot of people have. Where the hell did THAT come from?

Let's all be hermits together. :)

Hee. I think you'd like Lobo just as much as I do. He calls it being "unfun" and we agree that "unfun" folks need to stick together. ;p

Ooooh! Oooh! I wanna be in the unfun club too! I like unfun things like bike riding and astronomy, and science and stuff! I even have an unfun job! Pick me!

Oh, I think we can find room for a cute and clever fox in the group, sure. Just be aware that you'll be branded as "boring" and "stick=in-the-mud" if you hang out with our crowd. ;p

Tell that dude to stop being such a cheapass and spend a Benjamin for a printer/scanner/copier. You don't even need a computer for them to make copies. If he's so Earth-shatteringly important, then why doesn't he already have one?

I can answer that. If he had a copier at home or in his office, he wouldn't have an excuse to try to bully people around and feel so important. It's a yuppie thing, and as the yuppies get older, if they didn't grow out of it, they become really obnoxious about it.

Don't you have a kinkos about? He can go to one of them ;) We don't have kinkos here but we have equivalents.

Harvard is too small a town to have a specialized copy and print shop. The nearest places with anything like that are probably Crystal Lake or Rockford, each about 30 miles away. However, we are not the only place in town that has a photocopier available for public use. I suspect that the issue is more that the guy is a cheap-ass. We charge ten cents a copy, and the others probably charge a nickel more.

A good response to the Jerks is, well if you want us open for your convience it'll cost you more. XD

Weird thing about Books on tape, I can't listen to them in the car, but I can listen to them while I"m working on something. I don't know why I don't like listening to them in car *scratches his head*

Humor pathetique

Oh my Gawd! There are still people using the old "I'm a tax payer" excuse, what does he think you are a public servant? Geesh. It would be funny if it wasn't so incredibly pathetic. Some people are just so pathetic, you give them a pass because you don't want to have to deal with them going to peices in front of you. It reminds me of the lady who runs the place where I'm stay- total Jesus Freak- gets offended by anyone wearing anything she percieves as somehow pro-satan: Dragons, satan; the color red, satan. I'm glad I always wear plain solids- usually black, which is apparently less menacing to the feeble-minded :P

Yes, it's difficult living a sensible and practical life around people who are so short-sighted.

*looks at himself* Hmm, I wonder if she could stand this t-shirt? Probably not, it obviously brands me as one of those "furries" they talked about on CSI. (White shirt with the logo from this page.)
