I'm amazed I could find these. Especially for [livejournal.com profile] drelonek but you can all look if you like.

This ancient photo was taken the summer I was a camp counselor. Yes, that's me sitting on the dolorous donkey. We had two of them that were just pets. They had no job other than to wander around and let the kids spoil them, which worked very well. Gentle, tame, noisy, and of course, uncooperative sometimes.

"Here's the pic-a-nic basket. I'm sure I heard them say there was a chocolate cake in here... Now where did they put it?"

Also, last night when I was no longer awake, I posted an entry with questions in it. I realize now it would have made more sense to put my answers there as well, to save reposting them all over the place, so I've edited them in for anyone who might be curious.

That one with the donkey's head buried in the basket is damn adorable :)
Donkeys are great...

Those two were very sweet. But no one took much care of them other than to worm them and trim their hooves once a year. Consequently they were always dusty and smelly, and probably had lice in their ears and other unpleasant things.

Yes, it was amusing mainly because the basket was already empty. I'm sure we wouldn't have thought it so funny if lunch was still in there, because at least part of it would have disappeared immediately. Donkeys will eat nearly anything without questioning, and seem to have the cast iron innards to get away with it.

Indeed, though I think you're probably a better donkey than those two were. ;D

Love the old photos :D Look at the one with his nose in the basket :D Smarter than the average donkey?

Actually that's just typical. I admit it. Donkeys are usually smarter than horses. They live longer too. That's why mules are such useful animals: they combine the strength and size of the horse with the brains and durability of the donkey.
