Long Sunday
Aug. 12th, 2007 08:36 pmGary had a performance today, so I made an early breakfast to make sure he ate before going (he tends to starve himself when performing.) He took off and then I went to feed critters.
A sudden intense thunderstorm last night dumped maybe a half inch of rain on us all at once (in about ten minutes or less) and everything was muddy. I was wearing Teva sandals and socks, and when I saw the muck in the boys' yard I should have gone back for rubber boots but I didn't want to take so long. I waded in and ended up with sticky soft mud up to my ankles. Eew. Had to wash the socks out in the sink even before putting them in the washing machine because I didn't want that mud to get on anything else. It stains. The rain knocked a lot of acorns off the burr oak trees. Those are very bristly things, almost like burdock seed pods, but the horses like to eat them anyway. I worry about them getting colic, but so far it hasn't happened. There were too many to keep cleaned up and more kept falling all day.
Cleaned the oven. Made a grocery shopping run, since I didn't have time yesterday. Cleaned barns, Baked a pie (apple and rhubarb.) Made Hungarian goulash in the slow cooker. When he got home we had that with brown rice, salad, and red wine. It wasn't bad, which is a good thing since there were leftovers.
Did not work on editing the novel, nor on weaving that needs to be done, but I refuse to be guilty about it. The day was full enough anyway. If it remains clear, I may go out an look for meteors right before bed, since the Perseids are at their peak tonight.
