Gary had a performance today, so I made an early breakfast to make sure he ate before going (he tends to starve himself when performing.) He took off and then I went to feed critters.

A sudden intense thunderstorm last night dumped maybe a half inch of rain on us all at once (in about ten minutes or less) and everything was muddy. I was wearing Teva sandals and socks, and when I saw the muck in the boys' yard I should have gone back for rubber boots but I didn't want to take so long. I waded in and ended up with sticky soft mud up to my ankles. Eew. Had to wash the socks out in the sink even before putting them in the washing machine because I didn't want that mud to get on anything else. It stains. The rain knocked a lot of acorns off the burr oak trees. Those are very bristly things, almost like burdock seed pods, but the horses like to eat them anyway. I worry about them getting colic, but so far it hasn't happened. There were too many to keep cleaned up and more kept falling all day.

Cleaned the oven. Made a grocery shopping run, since I didn't have time yesterday. Cleaned barns, Baked a pie (apple and rhubarb.) Made Hungarian goulash in the slow cooker. When he got home we had that with brown rice, salad, and red wine. It wasn't bad, which is a good thing since there were leftovers.

Did not work on editing the novel, nor on weaving that needs to be done, but I refuse to be guilty about it. The day was full enough anyway. If it remains clear, I may go out an look for meteors right before bed, since the Perseids are at their peak tonight.

*imagines a hoss sitting on a roof watching for meteors* :) That's cute :)

It sounds like you did plenty today O.O It being the first day of my holidays I relubed the blind runners, cleaned two sets of fan blades and prepared one set for repainting. Vacuumed the house. Sorted through some junk, did some partial planning on repairing a collapsed retaining wall at the back of the house. Not as much as you did but still busy for this kitty.

No meteors, though. It clouded over again before midnight.

LOL I love splashing around in the mud when there's nothing important to get to, but I HATE it when you're in a hurry to get somewhere and you see a deep puddle ahead of you, and part of your brain says "Uh, don't go there", but the rest of your brain follows the impulse that says, "Hey, it's just water- march onward!" and sure enough, Sploosh! Now you're runnignlate and you got a puddle in your shoes :P I hate to admit it, but more often than not, the latter happens with me :P tough, or hard-headed- you decide, but that me alright ^_^

I like water but I prefer it to be reasonably clean. Mud I'd just as soon avoid. ;p

Getting mud on or in the shoe is a mild result, though. Typically if I'm in a hurry I would slip and fall in the mud, or a car would splash through the puddle, spraying me head to toe. The latter hasn't happened since I quit working in downtown Chicago, but back then it was a frequent winter occurrence. I sincerely believe that a large number of people driving cars think it's funny to spray pedestrians rather than slow down to avoid it.
