In preparation for MFF in November (the theme is Critters on the High Seas) it seems appropriate to do this one.

My pirate name is:

Captain Tom Bonney

Even though there's no legal rank on a pirate ship, everyone recognizes you're the one in charge. You can be a little bit unpredictable, but a pirate's life is far from full of certainties, so that fits in pretty well. Arr!

Y'know, after recent cultural trends, I'm sick of hearing about pirates. Pirate beer, pirate parties, face pirates :P No more... my pirate tolerance is at its limit!!! Please, everyone- stop talking about pirates... enough.

Sorry, I just had to vent. Hey, there's a spider.... spiders! Arrrrgh!

That's just because of those dumb movies. After the first one, I didn't bother with the others.

It's definitely spider season. I squished a huge one in the bathtub two nights ago (silver dollar size) and another this morning. There's one the size of a grape that keeps making a web over the dog door. I dunno if she thinks she can eat a whole dog or not. Maybe she's hoping the cat will get stuck in it.

Should I mention the bird eating spiders I've seen XD Mostly we just get big hunstmen, they scurry away and aren't dangerous though. The redbacks are the most common venemous ones around our house but the Geckos have been keeping their numbers down.

My pirate name is:

Iron James Flint

A pirate's life isn't easy; it takes a tough person. That's okay with you, though, since you a tough person. Like the rock flint, you're hard and sharp. But, also like flint, you're easily chipped, and sparky. Arr!

Iron James, eh? I've got a lot of ironing you could tackle, harrrr.

We have two spiders that are seriously venomous, the black widow and the brown hermit. I don't think I've ever seen either one, though. A lot of the others can give a nasty bite, just the same. It swells and itches for days. There's some small thing, likely a spider, that has occasionally bitten my ankle or foot and the itch is excruciating in itself.

We also have a number of insects that imitate spiders. If you look closely, you realize they have only six legs and can't be arachnids, but otherwise they look and move like spiders. I guess it's to keep birds from eating them.

Heh, I actually don't mind spiders unless their on my face or neck... I've saved various species of 8-legged webspinners on several occasions when at other people's houses. I once saved a Wolf Spider at my ex's aunt's house... all the girls wanted to kill it and I was like, "Uh, if I can make it go away, will you be happy?" so I took 'em outside in a paper cup. spiders, BFD :P

I usually leave spiders alone too, but my mate is definitely afraid of them and we both react strongly to being bitten so they must be discouraged from taking up residence inside the house or across windows or doors. When it's possible, I prefer to dump them outdoors or shoo them away, but that isn't always practical. Spiders do eat flies and mosquitos, and I certainly approve of that aspect.

Definitly.

Just posted a new entry... I've had that song- and the video- going through my head all day. Right now, Gabrielhorse is taking a new direction. Later.
