Official NaNoWriMo 2007 Winner

Official word count: 50,740 or 101% of 50K goal.

Chapter 21 is here.

No, the story isn't finished, but the NaNoWriMo quota is met. I promise to finish the story, but I may take a day off here and there to get other things caught up now. Stay tuned for the breathtaking (literally for Argos) conclusion. I promise, all will be well eventually, don't worry.

Congratulations!

I'm up to 55k myself. I think I've got at least another 10k to go with the story, if my characters ever decide to actually move instead of arguing with each other. ;-)

A little longer is better if you want to go to actual print. 50k is rather short for a novel. We could put three of them together in one volume like Reader's Digest Condensed Books, in fact.

Somewhere around 85k words is getting into the right range for a modest novel I think.

I expect the minimum to finish off mine adequately is going to be similar to your estimate, somewhere around 75,000 words. It dawned on me this morning that there is an additional theme I can play with, and by adding more detail to the scenery, it will be present throughout the book. It will also add a few thousand words, I suspect. ;p

*nod* I'm probably in a minority that during edits my word counts usually go up though. I'm not a very visual writer so a lot my editing is going back and adding more setting scenes and the like. I've gotten better at doing it in the first draft than I used to be but if I get stuck in a story it's invariably how I get unstuck, go back and make it so it's more visual.

So if I do finish this and do edit it, it's probably going to fall between 75-80k. Those big ifs though.

I also tend to leave out sensory details when I'm pushing to meet a quota like this. I'm still adding those to last year's novel.

Details, details.
What is this "finish" thing of which you speak? ;-)

You know, it's that shiny stuff they put on wooden objects, like guitars and the like.

Congratulations! I am muchly flattered at the confidence you had in me, but from my end I totally knew you'd finish, seeing just how reliable and disciplined you are.

Now that NaNo's done, I will finally be able to go back and read these NaNo novels at my leisure :)

I didn't finish in 2005. Going to the Furfest and making my costume (largely last minute) became too large a distraction. And I haven't gone back and finished that one either, because it wasn't well-planned enough. I suspect if I had pushed it past the 30,000 word mark, though, it would have fallen into shape just as the other two did.

A winner is you?

Bemani references are lost on you, it would seem. *snickers* Poor outdated pony...

*googles it*

Not outdated. I simply don't care for video games and never have anything to do with them.

Nanowrimo has about as much to do with you as Bemani does with me.

By the way... a lot of the artists that do work for Bemani are stand alone recording artists... in that respect, it's not a video game thing, it's a music scene thing ;P A lot of what Bemani puts into the arcades sounds a hell of a lot better than whats passing as fur dance music these days. Maybe that's because you know, you actually are supposed to "dance" to it. Theres a thought.

Hmmm, dance music. Another area of non-awareness for me. ;p

A question...

You know, it's funny... I'm better coming to understand not only Argos' lifestyle, but males like him in general. This prompts me to tell you something personal about recent events somewhat along these lines... but first a question, why did you at the beginning tell me not to read too much into Argos' relationship with Fennec?

Because I had the impression that you were expecting/looking for a full-blown gay relationship and it will never be that. I just didn't want to disappoint you.

Oh *chuckles* miscommunication... I must say I like the way the story's going- although I've only read about 4 chapters... :P

Heh... that's what critics do. As I said before, take your time assessing what I've already emailed you. I do want your opinion, but I want you to pour over what I've written, because that part is probably fairly "final".

I'll do that. The first cursory reading made it clear that I would have to take time with it, which is why it has been sitting. First impression suggests that my lack of overlap with your experiences makes it difficult for me to grasp some of your intentions, but I will say more after I can read it again.

Oh, yeah... well, my main concern is have i written the events & perspectives of those individuals well, given their circumstances so far? You see, i'm sort of intentionally hiding things from the reader at this point in the story, so some confusion is to be expected... but have i drawn you in as a reader?

Weaving porn. <3

(Not literally porn, 6Apart and younger readers. Term used in the sense of nifty specific details on any subject.)

Interesting point. I wonder if the [livejournal.com profile] yarnporn community is going to be marked as "adult content"...

This has to be about the stupidest move by 6A yet. I'm ready to actively encourage folks to get out of here and go to GreatestJournal or somewhere else.

I'm really uneasy about it for a wide variety of reasons.

The most selfish reason being that one of my friends responsibly marked his entire journal as adult content because he posts frankly about his sex life, which means I have to tell 6A my birth date to read it.

According to the claims they're making in lj_biz, you don't have to publish your birthdate. They're saying it goes by the information you submitted when you signed up for LJ (though I don't recall being asked for any proof of age when I did that.) I think they just are floundering around trying to "look good" to the bluestockings and bluenoses who keep holding the entire net at arm's length with tongs.

They also say that friends-only posts are not subject to flagging or other scrutiny. Right.
