Alarums and excursions
Dec. 13th, 2007 10:55 pmTrip to the dentist was uneventful except for some nasty traffic on the way that made me late. Fortunately not so late that they couldn't fit me in, though.
The whole day was uneventful in fact, until nearly 10 pm. I came home, did chores, made supper for the dogs and myself, and started in on a writing piece I hope to submit by Saturday. No, I wasn't procrastinating, I was having a hard time coming up with the right idea and finally got it on the way home from the dentist today. At 9:45 I got around to checking e-mail and found a frantic message from Gary (he was at his mom's in Chicago) saying he'd been trying to reach me all evening and if I didn't call him by 9 pm he was coming home tonight rather than in the morning.
Too late to catch him. In fact, by the time I called his cell phone he was pulling in the driveway. As far as we can guess, the phone company must have been doing something such that our voice line was out of service this evening, since his calls never rang or reached the answering machine. The line is working now, though, we checked. He also tried my cell phone, which was as usual turned off but even if it had been on I wouldn't have noticed it probably because it was set to vibrate and in the bottom of my knitting bag.
Being prone to terrifying imaginings, he was sure I'd been killed in a wreck on the way to or from the dentist, or that I'd slipped and fallen on the ice while taking care of the animals, or that pirates had broken into the house and were holding me hostage, gagged and tied to my loom bench, or something equally unlikely. I feel really bad that he had to make that trip. On the other hand, I didn't really do anything to cause it. And he could have called our neighbor Toni who would surely have come over to check on me if she couldn't reach me by phone either. Though I suppose since she's on the same exchange it's possible her phone was out as well... Anyway, all is well now and he's over his fright I hope. We had to call his mom back to let her know I was still breathing, and I was sufficiently distracted from my writing project to leave the rest until tomorrow.
One more hour to be this age. Well, technically, since I was born at 10:54 pm, I actually have another 24 hours, but that's not the way such things are usually reckoned. I think I'll officially adopt Jack Benny's permanent age of 39 years starting tomorrow.

Date: 2007-12-14 01:13 pm (UTC)I believe you have your birthday on 14h, so do I. In fact, it is 14th already :)
I am turning 30 today. I wish I did not have to, as I have heard it is
causing a lot of stress to many men. I felt a bit off-tune this morning, but it got better after my partner came home from his Finnish language course.
