Seed catalogs have started arriving. This year I'm doing the garden. I like tomatoes and beans and peas, and the last two years Gary has been too busy for it. Time to pick out what I'm planting.

It snowed again tonight, just after sunset and only lightly. Very fluffy big flakes that are going to blow and drift. Supposed to get more tomorrow I think, and then the temperature is falling through the ice thanks to a blast of cold air from Canada, eh?

To bed, anyway. Glad tomorrow isn't a regular Monday.

I'm normally awake about 5 am, yes. That's why I fold up by 10 pm or so.

*snickers* My work schedule usually gets me up around 3:30 in the morn, so I don't blame you for "folding" at ten ;) I got up about the same time as you and I feel liike I slept late :P

I think it's great when you can start planning the seasons crops, we haven't got any catalogues yet, but then again we rarely use them. Much prefer to go to the Garden centers around and pick a little bit here and there.
I love the smile on [livejournal.com profile] vimsig's face when we have filled a trolley with "newbies" and she can start planning the position of each and every one of them.
Firecrackers going off outside for the minute which drives the dog crazy, we're app. 2 hours off to our new year!
Happy New Year to both of you and all of yours, stay warm!

We're watching for more snow here. I see it on the radar, so it will probably come.

I acquired a new loom today, one that was "born" in Sweden in fact. It's a Lillstina eight harness studio or workshop loom, only 28 inches wide so small enough to be packed into the car to take to classes. It is well used but still in pretty good condition and since I'm signing up for a workshop class in May that requires me to have such a portable loom, it was essential to obtain it.

Garden centers are good for ornamental plants, but I find that I can't get what I want for the vegetable plot that way. I see little point in planting the same varieties that I could buy at the market. I have very specific ideas of what I want, and we've learned over the years that we can drive a hundred miles visiting garden stores and never get the right varieties that way.

Happy New Year to both of you, and may it be a good year too.

I looked up "Lillstina" and found a lot of them for sale used, for very good prices around 30-100 €. Looks like a really smart solution to take with you.
I bought our BIG loom for 400€ which is still a very cheap price compared to new one. Seems there's a lot of looms people never use, you can get them deadcheap second hand, at least here!
Working modern spinning wheels is a very different matter, type in "spinnrock"(Spinning wheel) and you get 53 million hits of "Old ornamental antique" very rarely to come across a functioning one. Not that I need anymore, I just like to look..

There are lots of looms in your part of the world, it's true. Prices are not quite so good here, but still the used ones are a much better deal.

You're right about spinning wheels, too. Most of the old ones are so worn out and have so many bits missing that you'd practically have to rebuild them to make them work. People who have purchased a modern working wheel are usually using it and not in a hurry to sell.

At the moment I have five spinning wheels and four looms, and I probably should consider selling a couple. Obviously I can't use them all at once, but each has certain things for which it is more useful.

We usually grow the snow peas. I like them raw. So do the horses.
