All right, I took the quiz. It failed to ask some questions that I think are very important just now, such as those related to religious beliefs and social or economic policy. The truth is, not one of these candidates inspires my support. Most of them incite only nausea and disgust, and I feel they are all publicity hogs rather than actual people with values and ideas. Every one of them would sell their grandmother to the highest bidder.

That's why I don't have much use such quizzes... just don't have the time!

Oh, it's a reasonable check to make sure I haven't overlooked something large. It only took 5 minutes or so.

I took the test and I agree, its not even
remotely accurate in any real sense.

The quiz is OK for as far as it goes, that just isn't very far. There is a much more comprehensive one on OK Cupid that also gives a graphical analysis of the various candidates views and how they compare. It still doesn't ask a question I feel is crucial after this last administration:

"Do you feel that personal religious opinions and beliefs should affect public policy decisions that affect millions of people and may be very difficult to reverse or alter?"

It's interesting, but I agree that it leaves too many important things unasked, and on too many questions the only available options force one into choices that don't match my views. I suppose that's fair if none of the candidates match one's views, though...

Yes, I think the answers to the questions were made up directly from candidate statements. So just like in the actual election, your only choices are the ones offered by the actual candidates, and just like an actual election, they all stink.

There's a much more detailed quiz on OK Cupid, but taking it feels exactly the same.

See? You got Gravel and Kucinich at the top, too! :)

As for selling grandmothers, I think that's pretty much a requirement if you want to become a politician. :P

That's one of the major flaws in our system now. Candidates drop like flies in the first month or so, long before anyone has a chance to actually support them. Iowa and New Jersey have way too much influence on the nominations.

New Hampshire actually is the first primary while Iowa is the first caucus, not New Jersey. But yeah, I agree, they really do have too much sway.

Yes, of course, New Hampshire. I'm still a little rattled here. I suppose all this wind could be coming from the politicians. The question is, which end?

Up 4 Grabs, Down 4 Keeps

That pretty much sums up every election in this country... The Popularity Contest, I call it. No matter who we get, someone's gonna get screwed. When I read off the list of names, I couldn't find a candidate I didn't want to throw rotten food at. They're all equally worthless, though each in their own way... all talking, stalling until they've already put the checks and balances in places to take advantage of their position. Two choices isn't democracy, it's playing the odds.

Heh. Even if you get a real choice, it's usually between two total extremists, rather than anything sane.

The problem is that we've allowed the office of president to become too powerful and too important. The real important election should be for congress and senate, not for president, but many people don't even know who their congresscritter is.

I kind of sorta knew for awhile- I picked up a book about each member in office when I went on a school field trip to DC in 1994... when the face of someone I recognized was involved in a scandal, I mentally circled their pic on the page in my mind :P

I'm with you. This will be my 10th presidential election, and I've never seen a worse slate of candidates.

Are these really the best our generation can offer the nation in terms of leadership? If so, I truly despair for the future of this country...

As I've said before, the people who would be really good in office aren't about to stand for election, and who can blame them? Who needs the press looking for every dirty little story they can dig up about you?

"Now we have an interview with Miss Wilhelmina Sharpnose, who was the candidate's first grade teacher 53 years ago. Well, Miss Sharpnose, what can you tell us about little Jimmy?"

"Oh he always was dressed very well, as if his mother was grooming him for the presidency even then. Of course, he did have a tendency to pick his nose..."

"Thank you, Miss Sharpnose. I ask you, is that what we need for the next president of the United States, ladies and gentlemen? A nose picker? Why for all we know, he still does it when no one is looking. Just imagine shaking hands with someone like that."

And so forth and so on.

Then there are the smear ads from the other side.

"Did you know that John Smith got a C minus in sex education when he was in eighth grade? Would you want someone like that as your president?"

And people eat it all up, they glue themselves to the television listening to this drivel... That's why it continues, because it sells.

The average voter...not.

It doesn't matter how I vote or whether I vote. The election process here has been so badly damaged it doesn't work at all.
