  • Warp small loom for towels

  • Finish up Argos book
  • Find some kind of magic to make spring hurry up and get here

The eclipse was pretty impressive here. We had a clear and frigid night, and it had started when I left work at 8 pm. Already a fair chunk was bitten out of the moon. At 9 pm I looked and the whole moon was an eerie red color with purplish shadows. By 10 pm it was starting to emerge from the shadow, with normal moonlight showing at one edge. I've seen total lunar eclipses before, but only partial solar ones. In any case, this was the best viewing I've ever experienced for an eclipse. I thought it was going to be much too cold, but the air was still and the temperature didn't drop as far down as had been predicted.

Tess is still giving me that look. The one that says "I know you could turn the thermostat up and are just too cheap to do it." Believe me, sweetheart, I would if I could. All the half-melted snow is frozen like iron now. I can walk on top of eight inches of snow without sinking in at all. In fact, that's the best place to walk, because the carefully shoveled out paths between buildings are now lined with half an inch of mirror ice. Slippery isn't an adequate word to describe it.

Tess and I both want you to turn up the heat.
True. Anything shoveled has turned into a glass smooth frictionless surface.

I've already ordered higher temperatures. Takes a while for the system to respond, though.

When life gives you lemons iced-up walkways, make lemon pie! And skate all over the place! You can get some James-Bond-ish boots that have retractable blades or something!

Skating isn't so easy when you have to go up and down hills though. Or carry haybales and buckets.

...Don't freezing-rain on my parade!
James Bond would have gravity control as well, of course.

Glad someone got to see it. We had an eclipse all night what with all the cloud cover...

We've missed a number of sky events this year due to cloud cover. I think this is the first since the "exploding comet" that was really clear.

Glad you got to see the eclipse. Some friends over in Toronto also had a good view, but we were clouded out.

It seems we missed quite a few things this year due to clouds or location, so it was our turn I guess. Sorry you couldn't see, I know you'd appreciate it.

I missed the eclipse since it happened at like 4am here. It was cloudy anyway I'm told. One year back in NY we had an ice storm so bad that we had to clear the driveway with sledgehammers.

The problem with the ice here is that the temperature has remained so low that salt doesn't work. I don't like using salt anyway, but sometimes there are places where it's the best solution. We dump the ashes from the woodstove in certain places too and they help create traction as well as darkening the spot so that the sun warms it faster.

Yeah, I know that "Ice and Snow Hard Like Concrete" feeling, at least
Tess has a home. If she was out in it...

The moon? I so wanted to do photos but no, total cloud cover, a little
snow, so I took revenge on nature and went to the beach to take pics
of the ice dunes built by waves. I think that when an ice age starts
it gets a head start by the waves on the southern shores of the Great
Lakes as each winter it builds ten, then twenty and then eventually
hundreds of foot tall ice towers.

Tell Tess it'll be okay, you'll ride her south then.

^_^

*snicker*

Tess could use being ridden south. She's fatter and lazier than even I am.
