More snow

It's Wednesday all right.

More snow is predicted for tomorrow night. Just in time for Friday's library staff breakfast meeting that was cancelled and rescheduled because of all the snow two or three blizzards ago. The accumulated ice and snow is now pulling down the soffit (I think that's the right word) under the eaves on our front porch.

Farrier rescheduled for the third time because of weather. He was coming out this morning when a snowplow went by and pushed three feet of heavy wet snow into the opening of his driveway.

A book ordered from a third party through Amazon more than a month ago still has not arrived. The seller is no longer answering e-mails.

And I have some spinning to finish yet tonight so that's all for now.

Best way to achieve that is still to get the library science degree, at least in the US. It's not a really hard program, provided you have a librarian brain. ;p

Hmm, does amazon have some sort of buyer protection programme?

They do, and I'm about ready to activate it. The amount of money involved is not much, but I'm suspicious of this deal.

*noddles* After a month, I'd definitely be - when I sold books on amazon in the past, I sometimes got emails along the lines of "where's my book? I'm waiting!" after two days. Granted, that's probably a bit extreme, but I'd say anything beyond a week is too much, and anything beyond two weeks is enough to become suspicious, especially if the seller is not responding to you anymore.

Oh well, the snow will melt eventually. Amazon will settle for the missing book, which only amounts to $15 in any case. And I'm pleased with the result of the spinning experiment.

The house falling apart is another matter entirely. It's a result of a very shoddy roofing job done by the previous owners. It had a "life-time" guarantee but the guy who did it skipped out of state long ago now. We tried to contact him shortly after buying the house and he was quite the phony weasel (no aspersions intended on any genuine mustelids.) The second time we tried, he was gone, no forwarding address and phone disconnected.

I had a dream last night that was obviously inspired by this situation, only it was the floor that was falling apart instead. You could pick the boards up in your hands and they were like cardboard. Wet cardboard. Then a dog we loved dearly who has been departed for almost 15 years came out from under the floor and started dancing around to greet me and I forgot all about the house I was so glad to see her. Perhaps it means something good will come of it. I hope.

I hope you get it sorted without too much trouble. There's something quite unsettling about having your house falling apart...

We'll get it repaired. With any luck, it will be something we can do ourselves and thus know it was done right or at least reasonably well. And it will make me paint the eaves, which they need, and replace boards in other spots where the woodpeckers have made holes in them.

There was a magpie hammering away at some woodwork near my bathroom window while I was having a shower this morning. No idea what it was up to, but I'll have to watch that spot...

We don't have magpies here, but there are half a dozen species of woodpecker that are all pretty common and like to drum on gutters and eaves.

It is, briefly. But you have to take these things in stride and keep going. Doesn't pay to brood over 'em. :)
