It has been dark and threatening much of the afternoon, but started to rain just as I went out to do evening chores. Most of that is under roofs, so I only got mildly damp, but the noise of the rain on the arena roof seemed almost alien. Has it been that long?

Over the last weekend the neighbors with all the loose dogs and birds put up a new fence on their chicken/turkey/geese yard. Today the geese and chickens were over wandering around between our house and barn again. Guess the fence didn't stay up very well. The turkeys are just dumb but very noisy. The geese are aggressive and extremely noisy (they also poop all over the place) while the chickens just dig out everything you plant. Not much point in taking it up with them, they just don't seem to get it at all. I think she's providing fox food when it comes to the chickens. No wonder the fox sticks right around here in the spring and moves on after the chicken supply is depleted.

Two record-breaking days in a row on BOINC but it really doesn't mean much. Apparently Cosmology@Home was having database difficulties all last week, so the units everyone completed remained stuck in "pending" status. This week they finally shook loose and a huge lump of credit rained down. Normally I get between 100 and 200 points a day from Cosmology@Home, but yesterday I got about 600 all at once, and the day before 1080. Now 1080 is more than I earn in a typical day. My average day is 700 to 800 points. On April 1 I broke 1700. Yesterday I was over 1400 for the third time in a month.

Well, yanno, I'm mostly vegetarian. It's that equine thing. I do eat meat when my mate is around because he likes it and it keeps things simpler. But he's off in Chicago tonight, so the chickens are safe from me.

Actually, I *have* killed, plucked, and cleaned chickens. Believe me, that's enough experience for a lifetime and I don't plan to repeat it unless I'm really desperate. It's downright "eeeeww."

i'm sure i could think of SOME meat that you'd enjoy O:-) (in case you haven't figured it out by now, i'm a horrible, HORRIBLE tease. :p)

Okay, chickens are indeed dumb, but domestic turkeys are scary dumb. I've interacted with both (the school I spent my life in from K-12 was founded on a farm and had one even when it changed sites) and much prefer other animals, thank you.

Mo jokes that even when she was primarily vegetarian she would still eat chicken and turkey because they were the intellectual equivalent of "fast-moving plants". I do love my Evil Mo :)

LOL. I'm inclined to agree with Evil Mo, especially about the turkeys. Moving plants indeed. When you consider the size of their brain in relation to the size of their body, it should be no surprise. Some fish are better endowed with gray matter.

Aye, and fish are much more interesting to look at than domestic turkeys.

Wild turkeys are another thing entirely, of course. They are canny, good-looking, and much more gregarious. How appropriate that they were at one point considered for our national bird!

And how unfortunate that our leaders now resemble the domestic variety. ;p

I think you mean "leaders".

I'm voting for Obama. He may be much more slick than I imagine (though I think myself a decent judge of character), but right now I really feel that he believes in the things he says - and I like most of them.

Oh, I can vote for Obama, though I'm not entirely happy with him. I can even vote for Clinton, though not quite as happily and I feel she's doing us all a disservice at this point by hanging around.

Unfortunately, I'm afraid the squabbling has made it very unlikely that any Democrat will win come fall, no matter how unhappy Americans say they are with the status quo.

There isn't any candidate anywhere that I'd be entierly happy with, perhaps not even myself should I ever choose to run. I'll hope for your vote, though :)

I agree that the Democractic Party's mess will make the actual election tricky to win, but I still have good hopes for change. We'll see, though. McCain is very affable and likeable, and that's hard to fight however much his policies are (in my opinion) too much "hold the line".

Anyway, enough of politics. Off to go find more cheery subjects :)

I'm glad your BOINCing. Its a good program.

Its been raining here too and we have a fearless couple (male and
female) of ducks that are noisy and padding around in the rain by
our house. They must have a nest nearby.

The cats are going insane looking at them out the window. XD

Tell your cats that being pecked to death by ducks is not a pretty way to go. They need to enlist a dog to help them catch ducks.

The temp is dropping so I shall be using the spare machines as heaters and Boinc machines :)

Seems like a pretty inefficient way to heat your house.

They produce a lot of heat :) Plus they'll be doing good things as well.
The house has poxy insulation no weather stripping and these stupid awning windows. With winter coming it might be a good time to put in insulation :)
