altivo: Running Clydesdale (running clyde)
[personal profile] altivo
Went to Elgin early this morning to watch the Elgin Fox Trot, a 10 mile foot race that passes the home of friends Doug and Leon ([livejournal.com profile] g_tapestry) once going out and again coming back. I readily admit that running like that has never been comprehensible to me, but Leon was in the run so we cheered when he passed. I'm inclined to agree with another friend of ours (a physician no less) who says she always feels like standing at the half way point with a sign that says "Go back, it's not worth it!"

Much thunder and lightning last night around midnight, for about an hour, with heavy rain but little wind. Simon, our bearded collie, does not like thunder. Though normally he will not sleep on the bed, he insisted last nignt on getting between us and quivering like jello until it was over.

Tess was out in the pasture for 2 1/2 hours today, longest this spring so far. When I went to get her she came galloping to me. I think she must have gotten bored.

Back to work tomorrow, ugh. And then it will be Wednesday again. Eeew.

Speaking of fox trots, any recent sightings?

And how is Transmontania coming along?

No new fox sightings. I think they have moved to another location for the moment.

Transmontania progresses slowly, because my time is limited. So far only a handful of people have actually expressed interest in it, which doesn't bode well for its viability.

Poor guy.. just reading that made me want to hold him and snuggle him and (hopefully) comfort him.

It's a common characteristic in the breed, though Simon wasn't bothered by storms when he was younger. He's twelve years old now and the big golden retriever who was his puppyhood friend has been gone for several years so he isn't quite as bold as he used to be.

Derider. *wink*

This was the first three days (offical) I have had off in years. Was nice. Got lots done including artwork. Horses looking great and Thunder is definitely mellowing (Tonka has no new bite marks for example). Nobody here bothered by thunder in fact Bear and I kinda like it.

Isn't Foxtrot a dance from like the twenties?

Gonna ride the GoldWing to work today. Clear and high fifties. New boots yaay. Poor van needs inner tie-rod ends and I tried to do it this weekend but no, it will take a shop and so going to go to Pep Boys soon before it breaks (very sloppy on the right side) and causes me to wreck.

So gonna ride the bike as much as posssible (plus it gets 33mpg as apposed to 23mpg). Besides Imperator is a goldwing kinda. Grin.

Impers the imp

I like a good thunderstorm too, though here it usually means the power is going to go out. Archie and Asher enjoy them too. If they are not locked in the barn, they play in the rain, racing around and boxing at each other.

Yep, the foxtrot is a dance craze from a century ago, though to watch these folks staggering up the hill north of Doug's house you'd hardly think of it as a dance.

Using the 'cycle makes sense with gas prices what they are. Just be careful about the weather and the yuppie drivers trying to push you off the road. Prices here were already dropping back down yesterday morning. Harvard dropped back from $4.29 to $4.19 on Friday even. We saw unleaded as low as $4.06 yesterday, so it was just the usual deal of cranking the prices up because they could steal a little extra from people who were traveling over the long weekend. Diesel was $5.15 in Harvard on Thursday, but it's $4.39 in Marengo, 15 miles south. Now that's price gouging if I've ever seen it.

HOw can she be bored when she's out rather than in the barn o.O

You don't like the ol steeple chases? I always thought being light on your feet and able to vault walls and whatnot a good defense mechanism :)

Tess is a mare. Don't ask me to explain the psychology, I don't get it either.

No, I've never been a runner. I've tried, but it does nothing for me, and is incredibly boring.

Its much more fun running in heavily built up urban environments, more little stairs, alleyways and things to run about in.

Thunder & rain... I've always beeen fond of both. I cans till remeber the first rainstorm I witnessed one night back when I lived in Gainsville. I was scared of lightning then- even getting soaking wet. But I was always fascinated. Eventually, I went out in the rain, walked in the rain, and got over my fear of thunder & lightning. I rarely have reasons to walk out in it now, but when one arises, you can bet I'll be out in it. The warmth one experiences the moment you come inside from it- especially if you've someone to share it with- wow, that's all I can say.

Oh yes. In fact, I wrote a story once that hinged on that idea, coming in out of the rain...

I'd probably have to print it and mail it to you. It's not something I'd recommend reading from the screen of a public terminal. ;p

LOL whatever you like, Alt. I'd only suggest emailing it to me to save paper, but if that doesn't bother you I'd be honored to receive a copy -_- Speaking of sending, I mailed you something today...

As Mrs. Who in Wrinkle In Time put it;

"Wild weather is my glory!"

I think I've passed that on to my daughter, she loves thunderstorms.

But I like your Tess.

*pats her nice*

Tess is a good girl most of the time. Today I put her out at 9 am, first time this year that she's gone out in the morning. I expected her to resist going in early (at 11) so I could get to work, but no. She came to meet me at the gate and followed me in like a big lamb.

*Decides to take the plunge and ride again, he
hasn't done it since 1983. Tess shies away and
he coaxes her to the fence. He climbs up and
leaps and she, at the last second, moves out of
the way and he lays there, the wind knocked out
of him, looking up.*

"Y---Y----you...y---you did that...*gasp* on
purpose!"

Her tail undulates as she farts and trots away.

"This is why I haven't ridden since 1983"

*sets his head back in the mud and passes out,
and the vixen comes by and tries to drag his
carcass to the kits*

Umm, even I wouldn't try to mount one of my horses that way.

*hands the ketchup bottle to the vixen*
