...about having this stupid detour going past our house: the litter is gross. People are pigs. It's appalling what they throw out their car windows. Obviously they feel no responsibility for the trash they strew around, none whatsoever.

I've decided to keep count of the waste from McDonald's and send them a bill at the end of the season. (Nearest McDonald's is four miles away, but their wrappings and crap are ending up in my driveway and on my grass.)

*breathes deep, grows calm and placidly folds hands* -_- I'm not suggesting any such thing.

Don't get me wrong- I think it's a perfectly fine thing you're cleaning things up. It- as you've said on this very page- affects a positive change. But the change is merely for the enviroment and doesn't affect the people who are causing what you view as a problem in the first place. One could make the analogy that it's the equivilant of a doctor treating a symptom while ignoring the disease.

In order to get these people to act as you think they "should", you have to be able to get beyond your thoughts about them- that they're idiots who aren't considerate. I'm not condoning their actions, but suggesting they are completely unaware of the cat in your box :P Because of this, they'll run it over every time. Awareness is a tricky thing to affect in people. *chuckles* My attempts here have made you defensive and are probably beginnign to really irritate you. For this, I apologize. *bows deeply* but in order to make even one's closest "friends" aware of things you see that they don't, you sometimes have to nudge them a bit. Their prior experiences are no doubt a factor in how they perceive your advances.

Here, a peace offering. *offers an apple*

I do not believe that these offenders are "ignorant" of the cat in the box. Our society does teach them, from an early age, not to do such things. They hear it at home, at school, and even on the media such as television that I despise so much.

They do it anyway because:
  1. They can get away with it
  2. They are lazy and selfish
  3. They don't think they should change their behavior for the sake of anyone other than themselves

Wow. A bundle of raw nerves here. Nothing I can say that will not take you further from what I wanted to accomplish. *sighs, then smiles* Well, I tried- and learned a lot so I suppose I should thank you for being open with me, anyways. I wish... nah, I think I've bugged you enough for now. Maybe sometime in the future I'll ask you about this again, but for now I'm dropping it before you genuinely get mad and ban me from your LJ. You're a person worth talking with and I really don't want to lose that over a minor misunderstanding. Misunderstandings lead to trouble, and that causes fighting. There are some people I don't want to fight with, even for their benefit- although I admit that's my perspective.

You know what, thanks for going the distance. Most people would just lose it and get nasty or personal. I'll leave the apple on the table, and let you decide what to do with it. Later. *waves and walks out*
