Long day. Rob and Gary were off to their Civil War event at 7 this morning, and I had the day to myself. More or less. The animals of course demand their share and get it. Went grocery shopping, did a little writing, Took Tess out to the pasture, cleaned barns, did a little more writing. Then brought everyone in and fed them, set stuff up for the morning. Oh, and baked a pie of rhubarb and peaches just in case Rob and Gary came home in time for supper. But they didn't. Gary called to say they'll be back by 11, and plan to return tomorrow as well.

Not that I don't have plenty to do. I have too much. But I'm lacking the motivation to do it now. So I've been reading instead. Tsk.

Civil War event? Are they re-enactors?

Not uniformed-take sides-pretend-to-hate-each-other re-enactors, but civilians. They go as musicians and participate in the related portions of the events where crafts and trades are demonstrated.

It's tomorrow now. And I'm left alone all day again, but that's OK. I should go out and do my chores now, while it's still early.

LOL. That wasn't quite what I had in mind. We're down to the bottom of our hay pile, and it's full of mice. Little tunnels everywhere.

Perhaps you could just take them out to the woods and pastures then and show them how much more preferable those are as living spaces rather than a musty dark old barn...

They'd best stay away from Tess. She stomps on crawly little things.

She does? On purpose?

Yep. A fair number of horses do that. They are afraid of snakes, which makes sense because the horse evolved in semi-arid ecologies where poisonous snakes would be a threat. Horses don't have the best close-up vision, so anything that scuttles or slithers on the ground makes them nervous.
