Library door counts are running double the normal number this week, for no apparent reason. That's about a thousand a day, compared to a typical average of 550 or so.

I got one bobbin spun from the dyed poonies. Need to finish a second before I can ply them together for the finished yarn. Photo promised when that happens.

Beyond that, it's Wednesday and late, so as usual, I'm wiped out.

That's odd. I wonder why the counts are so high?

If it were around here, I'd say the three weeks of clouds and rain were driving people insane, so I could see people looking for good books to read.

Last week of summer reading is part of it, so they're turning in their reading logs to claim prizes. But it still seems high. We've had a lot of clouds and gloomy looking weather too, though not an excess of rain. I'm really getting cynical about the library usage, though. All people want any more are videos and to play with the internet.

Maybe the door counter got bored and started counting legs instead?

Heh. Actually, our counter does count legs, sorta. That's the level it's set above the floor. We divide by some arbitrary number like three to estimate the actual number of visitors.

Hopefully they haven't suddenly grown more legs than three now... though I'm sure the shoemakers wouldn't mind.

Well, I'd say an even number is better.
Maybe you had someone keep their dog in the vicinity of the counter that ran about past it. :P

I wish I could edit my posts...

Ran past it. Repeatedly.
And kids playing tag in the doorway.

I think the major influx was just everyone realising "OH, SHI-" and running to turn in their summer reading thingamajingies before it is too late. :)

Summer reading definitely accounts for part of the increase.

No dogs though because the counter is inside the double front doors. It's about 18 inches up from the floor, so it counts little kids and women in long skirts as one, but bigger kids and men in trousers as two. And of course, it counts each time someone goes in and out. We don't use it as an accurate count, just to show trends up and down. When it goes over a thousand for a day, as it did Monday through Thursday this week, we've definitely been busy. Normally it's about half that, but during the school year it spikes on Friday because they bring in whole classrooms of kids from the schools nearby.

I visited the library the other week as well. They did not have what I needed again. Our library (Wakefield District) is very poorly stocked. I might see if I can join Leeds.

I dunno just how it works over there, but here if you have a card from one library in the state, you can use most any other. Or you can just ask your home library to get something for you and we hunt it down and borrow it from somewhere else so you can read it.
