As if I didn't already have too many projects underway...

Autumn is creeping up, time to gear up that fursuit project. I want Argos ready to wear in time for MFF, especially since I have a bad feeling that this may be the last MFF for me.

Ordered a wolf jawset and blue eyes today. Not as expensive as I'd feared, probably not top quality for a taxidermist but I think they'll do fine. No blue wolf eyes, these are intended for a carousel pony, but given my background... ;p

Oh, the con is just getting too big for me. They've moved locations this year and the new site is not as convenient to get to. Though I had the good sense to get my reservation in early, the hotel was sold out by May for a con to take place in November. This is not a good sign in my opinion. I don't care for overcrowded madhouses with broken elevators, like what Anthrocon became. I fully believe that MFF is headed down the same road. The information starting to come out on programming doesn't particularly excite me either. What used to be the spirituality/therianthropy track, one of my big interests, fell apart last year under new leadership, and I'd not be surprised if it is gone this year. The big news is apparently twice as many loud dance hall events, which are undoubtedly popular with the under 25 set, but have no appeal at all for me.

That's a shame. I hope you find a smaller, more genteel affair within schlepping distance.

Possibly Furry Connection North in Michigan if it keeps going. Or possibly not. I've never been a big traveler.

You could always join us in February for Furry Fiesta. Although it is certainly not as convenient for you as MFF is.

Thanks for the suggestion, but with travel going the way it is, and the economy and fuel prices as they are, I don't think I'll be making such long trips any time soon.

Oh I know, I just figured I would just through it out there as an option but the long travel bit for you would not be all that great compared to attending something closer to home.

When fuel was less I might have driven. You've probably heard me say I won't fly commercial airlines any more, and that holds even more than ever. I stopped back in 1980 or so after they smashed my guitars and weren't even apologetic about it. Now with all the supposed "security" that is really just about terrorizing people into behaving the way the government wants them to, there's no chance I'd pay them my hard earned money, let alone cooperate with their privacy invasions.

Looking forward to seeing your new wolf suit.

I know what you mean about MFF getting to be like AC. One of the reasons why I skipped AC this year is because it is getting to be so big and I'm not a fan of crowds either.

Furry Connection North is a possibility for something smaller. It's in Michigan, just outside Detroit, late April 2009.

Hmm. RainFurrest (Seattle) is not so terribly far away from you.

Dear Rider.

Well, Steed will be at this years MFF at least. Good thing to remind me to finish the suit.

I agree about the conventions becoming too big. Perhaps smaller groups of friends might get together such as you, me, Bear and perhaps others at some place in the future and hang out and take pictures in suits, etc. At our homes, perhaps. Or go to a park or some other suitable place. I know some of the "Furry Bikers" get-together for group rides for example.

I still enjoy fursuiting and will finish mine. We can all take photos of our suits and show them off of course.

I'm glad you still plan to come to MFF.

Smaller "fur meets" happen all over and quite frequently.

There's also a new furry convention in Michigan that just started this year. I've heard the first time was pretty decent. It's called Furry Connection North and is scheduled to take place in Novi (northwest of Detroit) in late April. I'll be looking into that. I know [livejournal.com profile] quickcasey went to it this year so I'll need to get his report.

Wolf dentures! To make teeth for my new fursuit. They arrived on Tuesday and are suitably threatening. ;p Though I think the rubber tongue is pretty silly looking and won't be using it...
