Home alone

And it's getting darned cold out. Gary's in Chicago at his mom's, won't be back until early tomorrow morning. There's a freeze warning here for tonight. Probably the end of the tomatoes and lettuce.

I started up the woodstove for the first time, but it's at the opposite end of the house from the bedroom. We have a long, low, ranch style house. I'm pondering taking my quilt and a plushie or two to sleep by the woodstove rather than in the cold bedroom all alone. ;p

We were talking on the phone earlier when his phone suddenly cut out. He called back on a friend's landline and said that his phone had a message on it that he had run out of cash balance and must deposit more before he could use it. That would make sense, as it's a pay-as-you-go arrangement, except that it is supposed to automatically charge $15 to my credit card whenever he gets down to a $5 or lower balance. So I checked online, and indeed no charges from his phone for quite a while. Went to the provider's website and yes, they show a zero balance, and they show that it is supposed to automatically add $15 when he gets below $5. OK, I thought, they didn't get the new expiration on my card. So I checked that, and no, it was correct and current. Gave in and manually added $20 to his balance, which should reactivate the phone. I can only guess that some glitch kept them from doing it automatically, and they don't retry. Dumb programming.

Tomorrow will be a long day. Time to bring in more wood and go get that quilt.

Get a malamute, they can be snugglier than a plushie. :P

It'd have to play nicely with cats... and horses... and sheep... and random passers-by of the animal variety... the insane neighbor it can bite though.

Biting isn't enough. He would need to eat the neighbor without leaving a trace, so as to avoid lawsuits. ;p

Hmm. Maybe I should borrow [livejournal.com profile] lobowolf's Yukon, except I wouldn't want him to get sick from eating bad things.

Heh. You've got some nerve, telling a plushie that a dog is snugglier than he is. I dispute that claim vigorously. ;p

We're up to capacity on canines here. Sarah is snuggly but she prefers to be much closer to the stove than I like.

Our dogs sleep on my legs or in the lower-middle of the bed, affording no real warmth and generally pinning down the blankets and quilt.

I welcome the colder weather, and the return of the bed-buddy plush. Summer's too hot for the big Ty bear.

Aw. We can't get our dog to sleep in the same room with us.

I don't mind cooler weather or even snow. I just hate the intermediate mud.

It does bother me that tonight's low is slated to be 25F and we're still waiting on hay deliveries here. We do at least have a supplier who assures us he has plenty to meet our needs, but at this rate the roads could soon be so bad that he won't be able to deliver it. Possible snow flurries are on the forecast for this morning.

Hi there. A very random and remote nudge from the one who used to be known as dongstyle_ltd (but now goes by the handle 'strawpony')! I'm doing my rural rotation at the moment and for some reason travelling made me wonder how my old contacts like yourself were doing.

Hey, it's good to hear from you and know that you're surviving that stress test period (though I had every confidence you would.) Things are pretty much unchanged here.

I took a look around and figured as much! :P Not a bad thing.

Actually I'm more confident of getting through stuff now: I've been sorting lots of personal issues out so I've got it together far more than I did two years ago.

I hope we'll see more of you again some day. I liked your art and your viewpoints.

You've already found me on NaNo! You can also find me on strawpony.deviantart.com, where I periodically update with standard life particulars and projects and studiously ignore the retarded politics re: "furries" and "anthro". No place is perfect.

OK, gotcha on DA also. I haven't been visiting there much but I'll try to stop by more often.

Wow, I almost feel guilty for wearing shorts, a t-shirt and sandals today. Almost, but not quite!

I miss the woodstove we had in Tennessee. We'd get it hot then set up a series of small fans to help move the warm air to the back of the house.

Yes, you should feel guilty. ;p

Tonight they say it will get down to 25F. That will surely be the end of anything growing in the garden still. A hard frost this early may well mean brilliant leaf colors though, so I'll be ready with the camera this week. Hope we get some sun to show them, that's looking iffy for the next week.
