I don't think it's from the astrology part. If I remember correctly when I did this one I got Neptune and if it was related to astrology I'd have likely gotten the moon. I don't remember Neptune ever being a big player in my chart (several of my friends enjoy doing charts for people)

No, it's not from the obvious stuff like "ruling planets" but from that question that divides the year up into ten day periods. There's a name for that particular astrological theory, but I can't remember it at the moment.

My horoscope is dominated by Saturn, Venus, and Uranus, even though Jupiter rules my sun sign. ;p Neptune was fairly inconsequential in traditional terms if I'm remembering correctly. But there's this kooky thing about dividing each sign into three ten day periods or "deccans" and that's what I'm thinking is involved here.

Hrm...doesn't look like it in my case. My decan is apparently Pisces/Jupiter (which if I remember correctly on top of my rising of Aquarius and my sun sign of Aquarius means I truly am...all wet) but I retook it and got Neptune again. :-)

I wish we had some cold and gloomy weather here. Aside from me loving that sort of weather we're still having the usual Indian summer here. Granted it's not as hot as it was when we were moving but it's still warm. I'm ready for fall!

I need to do a knitting/spinning post. I just got some sea cell to spin though I've been refusing to let myself fondle it till I finish getting my apartment in order.

I keep hearing people talking about that stuff but have yet to actually see or touch any of it. I've not been impressed by the other wild fiber fads of recent though. Soy silk, ingeo, tencel, and stainless all leave me cold. I confess that I rather like bamboo, but was disappointed to learn that it's just a variation on rayon. Despite all the fooferaw about it being "green" because it's made of fast-growing bamboo plants, in fact the processing involves all sorts of nasty stuff I don't want to think about. I'll just stick with good old wool, cotton, and linen and their relatives like ramie and alpaca. ;p

I knit this scarf from it, it was lovely stuff to work with. It's got lovely sheen and it's soft so when I saw that you could get it to spin with I wanted to try...pondering trying to dye it a sort of coppery color. I'm not sure how it's made though, might be just as bad as bamboo (which feels lovely to the touch though it's sad it's basically rayon)

I just looked for information about the way in which seacell (tm) is made. It's rayon as well. In fact, the seaweed can't stand up on its own as a fiber, so they make a wood-based rayon and then use it as a "substrate" for the seaweed goop. The original theory was that wearing underwear made of the stuff would have health benefits. I think I'm underwhelmed now. Most of the available information is full of hokey claims about the "exchange of healthful ions between the wearer's skin and the seaweed." Heh. Why not just stuff a wad of seaweed in your knickers? Gotta be a lot cheaper.

I don't doubt it's soft and pretty. Most rayon products are. If it stands warm water washing, then you will be able to dye it with fiber reactive dyes like Procion.

Hee! It seems a bit luxurious in fiber form for underwear. Most of the sources I find (even a few eco-sites) say that it's not hideous for the enviroment to produce, which is a good thing, at least. Nice to know that at least. I'm just currently having fun experimenting with all sorts of different fiber, mostly...and I do love the sheen of the sea silk I used before (I'm thinking if you could get the color right you could actually aproximate a sort of metal look with the fiber which would be pretty nifty.)

I've seen Coopworth or Wensleydale wools that looked metallic due to the combination of color and the high natural sheen. Of course, now that they sell stainless steel as a "fiber" for fabric manufacture, you could go with the real thing. Too bad chrome is so toxic, or they might be able to plate it onto the stainless.

I've seen silks that look that way too. Alchemy and Tilli Thomas have a couple of color lines that look metallic (I have a skein of Tilli Thomas's disco lights that I'm trying to figure out a use for...it's lovely but has relatively low yardage so it really will only work as an accent) Silk tends to be expensive though (though the spinning fibers seem to be far cheaper than I'd expect)

I want to do more dyeing, though I probably won't play too much with the sea silk till I'm a bit better at it. I have a never ending bag of merino to play with too though.

Just remember that silk and wool take acid dyes while cellulose fibers like cotton, rayon, and (presumably) sea cell will need an alkaline dye bath. Fiber reactive dyes work on both, you add vinegar for the protein fibers and washing soda for the celluloses.

At least in the traditional astrological meanings, Saturn seems like a fair fit for you. I'd expected to get it myself, though you emphasize some of those qualities even more than I do.

In my actual horoscope, Saturn is the leading planet (the one next to rise after I was born,) which makes it more prominent than the ruling planet of my sun sign, which would be Jupiter. Technically, that's supposed to mean that I look Saturnine to others while feeling Jovial internally, or something to that effect.
