Helped hang the show in the gallery this morning, and it's a good one. Over 150 entries are on display, ranging from handspun skeins to large shawls and tailored garments. For anyone in the Northern Illinois-Southern Wisconsin area, it's worth seeing. The gallery is in the Old Courthouse Arts Center, 101 Johnson St., Woodstock, IL, and the show will open to the public on October 2. Gallery hours are Thursday - Saturday, 10 am to 5 pm, and Sunday, 1 pm to 5 pm. The show will remain open during those hours until November 2. More information here.

The show window of the gallery display is particularly clever. In June of this year we had a towel exchange, this year's challenge for the weavers. In essence, you wove as many dish towels or hand towels of any design or color as you wished. Then we spread them all out on display, and each of us got to take as many towels made by others as we put in of our own making. There were a lot of towels. They made a display for the window with towels hung up on clothesline, and in baskets and a washtub below. It's clever and cute, right down to the washboards and the bar of Fels Naphtha soap.

I didn't sweep away as many awards this year as last, but I had fewer entries. Both of the scarves I had made from handspun yarns got second in their respective categories, and at least one skein made a placement. The weaving results won't be public until tomorrow, but it's unlikely I got anything there for either of my two entries.

We took the pad off Tess' hoof this morning, and she did a little sympathy act that lasted all of 30 seconds before realizing that she could walk normally again. I put her out in the pasture this afternoon, and when I went to get her she was her old self, galloping to meet me at the gate so that she had to do a fast turn to keep from crashing into me. On the whole, I'd say she's over it, though complete healing of the hoof will take a while longer.

It was cold and gloomy today and since I had the whole day off because of hanging the show, I was naughty and made traditional comfort food for dinner: swiss steak with carrot-tomato gravy, green beans and zucchini from the garden, and mashed potatoes. It was good, but we both avoided eating too much.

Glad to hear Tess is feeling well. Hoof-health is very important for us hoofers. :)

Mmm... Comfort food... I would love some of that, too. You just made me hungry. :Þ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I would call that a nice dinner. It is nice to indulge every now and then. :)

*offers you leftovers* It's definitely not healthy food, though.

Congrats on the awards for the scarves! I'll keep my fingers crossed for the weaving.

Glad to hear Tess is doing fine. I wouldn't have expected the sympathy act, lol!

I can't wait until it cools off a little more for us down here. Michael makes an amazing beef stew but it's strictly a cold-weather comfort food. He hates cooking but I insist that he makes it. It never comes out the same when I cook it.

Fortunately my mate took up a substantial share of the cooking chores when we moved to the country and I had long commutes by train. He has some long time family specialties that date farther back than that, like killer spaghetti and meatballs for instance, but he's a constant experimenter and recipe explorer so he's found lots of other strong points since then and often volunteers to make them.

Horses are smart, and especially the mares. Tess knows she may get coaxed with a small treat if she shows resistance when urged to do something, hence the act for a few seconds pretending that it still hurt her to walk on that foot. I'm a little more savvy to the game than Gary is, so she didn't get away with it, and she knows when I'm in charge that it won't work if it doesn't work right away. ;p
