Out of the whirlwind...
Oct. 11th, 2008 08:55 pm...and into bed I think. Long day, and another long one tomorrow. Spinning demos morning and afternoon today, along with gallery watching, lunch with Gary and his musical partner, home to feed critters and put together supper while they did a second gig of the day at the Marengo Settlers Days "Night on Main St." (Actually it's State St. but I guess someone didn't think that sounded cool enough.)
Now we have to take Rob to the train station, and by the time that's done I think we'll both be collapsing. It was fun though. And though there were the usual dumb questions from people who have never seen or thought of spinning and weaving, there were no hassles at all. The weather was beautiful too.

Date: 2008-10-12 06:30 pm (UTC)Been thinking of old times with Mom and Dad. Spurred on by freebies designed to entice us to buy property in Apple Canyon Lake, we went on a trip to Galena when I was young, maybe 1972 or so. Stormy summer. I remember staying in a motel in Freeport, I think, and the TV had "severe thunderstorm warning" written in lightning bolts and I was scared to death.
On the way back, I convinced Dad that we should avoid the tollway and take US 20 all the way in. Another storm hit, with a big squall line, and about the time that 1 inch thick branches were bouncing off the car, we decided we should pull off the road.
We stopped at some place right on the edge of Marengo. Kind of like a hot dog/beef joint. Not a chain or anything. We had what Dad remembers as "the best corn dogs I ever had".
So I was looking for it and didn't find it, but did get a chance to drive through town.
