altivo: Running Clydesdale (running clyde)

Ran to do the grocery shopping while Gary was at church this morning. We did find time for nummy apple pancakes I made before he left. When he got back we packed up and headed off to Woodstock again, this time for the show reception where he provided music and I stood around spinning on a drop spindle for the amusement of curious visitors. Reception ended at 3 pm but I had volunteered to hold the gallery open until 5 so we stuck around that long but no more visitors. It was odd, or maybe not so much. As soon as the buffet table of food and punch disappeared, so did the crowds...

Came home, Gary cleaned stalls while I fed and watered everyone. Leftovers for dinner with the addition of fresh green beans from the garden and Greek salad with olives and anchovies.

I feel as if I'd run a marathon this weekend. No, I've never actually run a marathon and yes, I'd probably just drop dead the way the original runner did, but still, I feel the way I imagine I'd feel if I had run one, OK?

Happy Thanksgiving to everyone in Canada, even silly narrow-minded conservatives out in Alberta. ;p

"...anchoview."

Honestly, I'm going to use that word in a sentence, somewhere. I'll be talking with a group of people, and I'll just randomly chime in with "we had great anchoview!"

Whoa. That was a busy weekend, indeed.

Thanksgiving? Ah, that thing. Pity we don't have one here in Finland. But seriously, though, there should be a Forgiving Day every year. :)

*nuzzles*

I wish I couls have been there, apple pancakes sound nummy.

*tends your sore hooves*

I know how you feel. I had to endure my friend's 30-year birthday with a cottage full of drunken kinds in their 20's playing music way too loud for my pain treshold and singing some rock/metal karaoke. Badly. I am just glad it is over now.

Ugh. I'll take what I had on Saturday and Sunday over that kind of party every time.

Completely unrelated question that your comment about apple pancakes encouraged: What's an apple dumpling?

A dumpling is made by boiling a lump of dough in broth or other liquid. That's the definition. Normally you see them in soup. Without more context, I'm not sure what someone would mean by "apple dumpling" other than that.

Some more specific food names, like Polish pierogi or Asian "pot stickers" are just specialized versions of dumplings.

Dump -ling

Yeah, I've seen dumplings before in soup, I was just wondering if apple dumplings have an apple in them, or chunks or what- why the apple connotation was my query I guess :P

Asian "pot stickers"? I'm curious, what's that about?

Sure, an apple dumpling ought to have apples in it.

"Pot stickers" are a kind of dumpling in several Asian cuisines. They are usually made from rice flour, so they are sticky and will stick to the pot, I suppose, hence the name. They are generally stuffed with something, often meat but could also be fruit or vegetable. Rather like Polish pierogi, only those are typically fried after the boiling so they aren't sticky any more.

I make two kinds of apple pancake. This one is a light and fluffy pancake made by separating the eggs and beating the whites until they are stiffened before stirring them in. Chopped up apples are added to the batter just before frying. Really good with butter and dusted with cinnamon and sugar. ;D

Oh, sure, the salad had feta cheese, olives, sweet onion rings, tomatoes, and half a dozen kinds of lettuce.
