Comment statistics
Oct. 25th, 2008 11:08 amComing up on 1500 entries posted, and past 21000 comments received, so I thought I'd post this thing again. This time I combined the stats for those I know of who have changed names in the last four years. That bumped a couple of people way up in the list.

Date: 2008-10-25 06:29 pm (UTC)Well, actually, I often feel that I both post and receive less comments these days than I used to, but that may be just my perception.
But it's fun - as long as I've got enough time to actually keep up-to-date on my friends page, I really enjoy this way of communication. It's personal (i.e., generally from one person to another, unlike things like IRC channels etc.) while still allowing others to chime in, it's asynchronous and doesn't require your immediate attention, and you can talk as much or as little as you want to, as well as ignore topics that might be contentious, that don't interest you or that you want to forego for other reasons.

Date: 2008-10-25 07:33 pm (UTC)(And of course, while I'm talking about what I like about LJ, I can't neglect to mention the fact that it's hugely useful as a feed aggregator - I've never seen a better RSS reader than one's LJ friends page, and if you add personal journals, communities, nested comments, tracking capabilities etc., it's really a hugely efficient communication hub.)
But I guess I'm preaching to the choire. ^_~

Date: 2008-10-25 09:45 pm (UTC)For another, LJ doesn't seem to understand all the versions and varieties of Atom and RSS that are floating around. Some of them it simply ignores, and never finds any new entries, even though Google Reader and other RSS aggregators do recognize them.
And for a third, LJ makes it too difficult to edit the subscription list. You have to create a feed on LJ and once you do, you can only unsubscribe from it and create a new feed. Most readers let you edit the properties of a feed without releasing it and adding it back.
Lastly, any feed you add to LJ becomes sharable by other users. Usually this is no problem, but sometimes I might not want just anyone to be able to see a list of all my selected RSS feeds.

Date: 2008-10-25 10:02 pm (UTC)As for the rest, that's a feature - you don't subscribe to a feed as much as you add a syndicated account, after all, and I think it's quite useful that it's possible to have - say - the feed URL of a comic strip updated when it changes, automatically showing the comic again to everyone who was reading it. (And the same goes for other things, too, of course, not just comics.)
But YMMV.

I am a bit low on your list, must improve. :P

Date: 2008-10-25 05:05 pm (UTC)Honestly, it's very easy to lose track of how many times one has commented in a specific journal. I suppose it all adds up, though!

Date: 2008-10-26 11:05 am (UTC)I'm most disturbed though by the hard-surfaced selfish greed being exhibited by some. You know, the "I shouldn't have to pay taxes" people. They'd be the first to scream if there were suddenly no roads, no law enforcement at all, no educational facilities. But because they were born to privilege and financial comfort, they are absolutely blind to that.
