I agree, sort of. It occurs in both forms. I typed "donner" first and when it didn't work I tried the other.

The hard part was getting it to work in dial-up. The stupid thing wanted to count the communication delays against me.

But there are TEN reindeer. Everyone forgets Olive, the Other Reindeer.

Olives are Mediterranean. What would one be doing at the North Pole?

North pole? :P

*points to Korvatunturi in norhern Finland where Santa lives.*

Silly horsie. :)

But do olives grow in Korvatunturi? Somehow I doubt it. ;p

I cannot.

But I think Blitzen is highly under rated.

They come in pairs, that's how you remember them. Blitzen is "Lightning" and Donder or Donner is "Thunder". ;D

Thunder is okay...but that Lightning!

Is that with or without the olives?

I'll happily include Olive, as long as there's enough pineapple and ham.

I'd probably manage 3, if lucky. Being foreign names and all...

Funny that Santa has american names for his reindeer, but he still lives by the Korvatunturi in Finland. :P

Makes me wonder @.o

*snicker* Donder and Blitzen are German, not American. I'll give you Dasher, Dancer, and Prancer, but Comet and Cupid are Latin and I suspect Vixen is as well. As for the latecomer Rudolph, he must be German too. Just look at that nose. ;p

This one was easy for anyone who has caroled :) It's a tradition we've been rejuvenating here on the Oakland / Berkeley border, and while it weirds some people out (mostly in a good way) we actually have some people who look forward to our coming by.

It's fun, and we get free goodies sometimes!

I was briefly stumped by "Donder" instead of "Donner" as I know it primarily, but the alternative popped into mind fast enough. I was expecting to name the eight traditional and paused again when it obviously expected more. Rudolph is a bit hokey in my opinion, but I'm a purist.

I learned Donder when I was a kid and just incorporated it when I heard Donner later on. Not sure if I ever gave it conscious thought before now.

And yes, Rudolph is hokey, but hey, how else are we to learn that we're only valuable when we have something Authority wants from us? (That's my more adult, cynical interpretation of the story, especially the TV version ;)
