Of course it has been sunny and clear pretty much the whole week. Tomorrow, though, we invited some friends to dinner, so the forecast calls for a 90% chance of snow with two to four inches of accumulation. Given the poor reliability of NWS forecasts over the past few years, I almost wouldn't worry about it. We could actually get nothing, or a foot. There's no way of telling. Odds are, since they predicted it, we'll get nothing.

But there's Murphy's law too, which says that since snow is undesirable on Sunday, we'll be sure to get it, and more than we want. Add to that the fact that much of the food is already prepared, and we cleaned house more thoroughly today than we have in months. That calls for a blizzard, just to interfere with our plans. ;p

At the moment it's heavy clouds, but nothing falling. There's a grand conjunction tomorrow right after sunset, SSW, lowish in the sky. The crescent moon will pass right between Venus and Jupiter, both of which are extremely bright. It should be spectacular, but of course won't be visible here. Those of you who have clear skies at sunset tomorrow should have a look, though.

Dear Rider.

It seems we will get some of that snow as well. Or not. Got the snow blower working and running well just in case and right in front in the garage. Only happens rarely and sux having to snowblow in order to get to work early in the dark morning but sure beats shoveling. The snow fence Bear puts up every year helps cut down on the drifts, an even bigger problem.

Well, here is hoping it is light and no problems encountered. I can't fly when my wings get laden with snow, not that I would.

Ugh. I don't normally mind snow, but I'd rather this storm waited until later in the week. They've upgraded it from "hazardous weather outlook" to "winter storm warning" now, and the expected snowfall is 3 to 7 inches with a 100% probability. Our friends would be driving up from Elgin (about 21 miles) which is not ordinarily a big deal but under those conditions they just might decide to cancel. The timing is such that they should be able to get here OK but would have to worry about being able to get home.

I'd ask you and Bear to fly over too, but you're right. This is looking too nasty for flying. It's flurrying now, and looks like there was a little freezing rain earlier. That's the bad part. There's a temperature line between here and Elgin, so while we have snow, they might have a quarter inch or more of ice. Yuck.

Gary made good stuff too. Hungarian chicken porkolt, Sweet and sour cabbage soup, and Zucchini cake with chocolate chips.

Have to keep an eye out for that one. Although it's looking pretty gray here at the moment. It's a couple degrees above freezing here though. So if anything, we'll probably get more rain.

I shall ask the most important question that a cat of my ilk would ask.

What's for dinner?

Oh, I recommend that. Shredded cabbage, some onion, canned tomatoes, sugar and vinegar are the basic ingredients. A little beef or chicken can be added, or some beans. I like potatoes too but they aren't traditional. It's Hungarian, and delicious. You simmer it until the cabbage is tender but still holding together.
