This is starting to look very much like last year's weather. About four inches of snow last night and this morning, and another three to five predicted for overnight tonight. The long term forecast looks like it's for Buffalo, NY, with a snowflake on nearly every day and night in the next week.
I have to be honest, I rather prefer this to the dry subzero weather we used to get at this time of year, but it's quite an eerie change, nonetheless.
The snow caused a very slow day at work, at least in terms of library visitors. The internet addicts of course are always there as long as we're open and the net connection remains active, but the book and newspaper people seem to stay away.School was not canceled, but the usual school visits set for a Friday all ended up being canceled. Door count was about half what we see on a normal Friday. Mail came as usual, though, and we had a large shipment of new books so I had plenty to do. Fortunately for some of the staff, the coffee delivery guy appeared in spite of the snow. (We ran out of regular coffee on Wednesday, which is always occasion for much consternation. We have a regular coffee service that provides and maintains a restaurant-style coffee maker as long as we order coffee from them. With several serious caffeine addicts on staff, letting the coffee run out (only decaf was left) without reordering in time takes on the proportions of a deadly sin. ;p
I was entertained to learn that the garden club is meeting next Wednesday and wants to show a video, when I will in fact be in the building but on vacation, attending a weaving workshop being taught on the premises. There is nothing I hate more than having to "help" the garden club show slides or videos. It seems that none of them are even capable of finding the "play" button on a remote. Even if everything is set up for them in advance so all they have to do is press "play", they manage to somehow switch the projector into some secret digital mode and the DVD player so that it runs in reverse... For once I'll be unavailable.
