One problem solved, I think
Mar. 3rd, 2009 07:47 pmRemember that rackmount server I was talking about a couple of weeks ago? The very flat one that was designed for a 4 post rack when I only have a 2 post rack?
I think I found the suitable mounting adapter for it today so it can live successfully in the 2 post relay rack, thus getting it out of my work area and banishing its horrible fan noise to the mechanical room. The mounting hardware costs about $100, but considering that the library got a $2400 server for free, we can buy the mount. So that's one nagging problem solved, I hope.
Cold! But supposed to get better now. Most of the snow and ice melted last week, encouraged to do so by torrential rains early Friday morning. But now after two days of single digits, the lakes of water everywhere are frozen into solid glaciers, even where they were flowing downhill. Oh, and the library roof leaked again after Friday's rain, right where it was just "repaired" a couple of weeks ago. Obviously the repair missed the mark. Fortunately, the leak is over empty flooring, and the damaged plasterboard in the ceiling hadn't yet been replaced.
Finished a pair of socks last night. Not for anyone else. These are for me. I rarely get to make anything for myself, but these have been in progress on and off for a while and are finally done. Nice thick ones, might even get to enjoy them before it gets too warm.
