The event was an unqualified success. Most of the children were a little bit afraid of the wolf, but after the story was finished they had a craft session in which they made wolf hand puppets from paper lunch bags, and then they were all eager to show the puppets to Winston.

You have exactly the same carpet as our local library! O.O

Seems unlikely, but maybe it's called "Library carpet #2" or something? I don't care for the color, but no one asked me. ;p

Nice pics. Good idea with the hand puppets, too.

Was this consciously aimed at getting them less scared of wolves, just as all those states are trying to get permission to murder them?

Not consciously, no. The author's aim, to interest children in reading, was pretty much our goal.

The business about murdering wolves and hunting them back into extinction is indeed very bothersome, but I think it is driven less by fear than by the hunting lobby, which is constantly looking for more "legal" targets at which to shoot.

That and the cattle ranch lobby which just wants to own every last acre of un-developed land.

The ranchers are powerful in Montana and Wyoming, but not in Minnesota or Wisconsin.

It made me more sweaty than smiling, though I did smile when it was over. ;p

I can imagine - on both counts. :)

Sounds like a fun activity for the kids (and for you). Just goes to show not all wolves will snack on granny :)

Snacking on Granny is like killing the goose to get the golden eggs. Granny makes cookies and cakes and pies and stuff. I'd rather snack on those. ;p

Awesome. Nice suit, and I'm glad it was such a hit with the kids. I bet it made their day.

Glad you like it. Some of the kids did really get into it. A few were reluctant or even frightened, but mostly it seemed just to be shyness. I remember that. When I was maybe seven or eight years old, we went to see the exhibits at a commercial museum operated by Ford Motor Co. in Detroit. (The Rotunda, an interesting round building that burned down in the 60s and wasn't rebuilt.) It was near Christmas, but instead of Santa they had a Ford tractor that "talked" to kids (must have been a remote operator with a hidden video camera and microphones and speakers.) My younger brother was fascinated trying to figure out how it worked, but I (two years older even) was shy of it and kept hiding behind Mom. The operator could see me of course and kept trying to coax me out, but I was having none of it. ;p

Same thing happened with a couple of the kids two years ago when I made an appearance as Altivo the Clydesdale at the library.

Yay! Nice job. Always good to see these sorts of cool fursuit events for kids. Glad it went well.

Thanks. It went well enough that they already want me to do it again. I guess that's some measure of success.

I'm glad I left off the padding that goes under the suit too. I was cooked enough without it. ;p

Aww you big softy :)
Did Winston woof his approval of said puppets?

Softy is right, maybe in the head too. That may be where I got this cold somehow. Seriously, the fur I used in that suit really is soft. It's amazingly nice to touch, though really hot to wear.

Winston scritched and petted the puppets he was shown. They were made by pasting cutout eyes, ears, muzzles, and tails onto the paper sack, so not exactly cuddly. And the eyes were mean looking. ;p
