Draft READ Poster

No, not vore-aciously, thank you.

This is the proposed draft for a library READ! poster featuring yours truly and Ms. Janet, who read the book for the kids. (Winston the Book Wolf by Marni McGee.) Click image for a larger view.

No, a "locovore" is not someone who eats locomotives, either.

No, it's a fairly new word for someone who eats locally grown food in preference to food that is processed or shipped from far away.

I wasn't being too serious. :)

"Locovore"? (I could see "logovore", but I'm not sure what a locovore would be - but then, my Greek really isn't the best... ^_~)

Nice poster, in any case, though! :) I'm sure it'd get more than its share of attention if you put it up in the library...

See above for definition. Actually, in this context I prefer "logovore" and I'll suggest that.

*nodnods* Ah, OK - thanks for the definition above. :) Yeah, "logovore" probably would be a better choice; "locovore" just doesn't seem to have much to do with the poster's topic.

"Locovore" is a local fad here. It's supposed to be "green" and maybe it is to some extent. I'm amused because so many people don't know how to cook, though. My boss subscribes to a local vegetable coop and receives a box of locally grown produce once a week. It's delivered to the library, and everyone stands around and says "What's that, what's that?" I'm usually the only one who knows what all of them are and how to prepare them.

Locovore? No such word exists in the Oxford English Dictionary...

Correction: The Oxford American Dictionary, but still.

Too new for those staid resources. Try urbandictionary.com.

Also, cute poster. I like it. Building a new generation of furries ;)

Yeah, I like it a lot. Hopefully they'll give me a frameable print of it. That's customary.

Judging by the kids' reactions, I don't know if it encouraged any budding furries, though.

Locomotives are too highly processed. You should eat the coal instead. ;p

It's hard on the books, though. We already had a lot of them with tooth marks.

No gnawing on the books :)
As to your Boss getting veges locally grown, it seems on the rise here for markets to sell produce from market gardens quite regularly, there's even one in the middle of the city on Wednesdays that a lot of my coworkers go to.

I'm not very good naming veges but even I can usually tell what they are :) The newest discovery was a custard apple, I'd never seen one before. *scratches his head*

Custard apple is a tropical thing and not very common here either. It has other names, including "bull's heart" and "cherimoya." I've tried it once when it was offered by a Puerto Rican friend who knew how to get the seeds out of it, but it made no great impression on me.
