Obviously, this is a still shot from the Dreamworks film, Spirit, Stallion of the Cimarron. It was one of several that they gave away on the web during the pre-release publicity for the film. It's one of my all time fave animated films. It has a horse, it has wings, should be obvious. XD

Daww. :P

I just have a solid color desktop, so little point in posting it. Spirit and the eagle (whose name I keep forgetting) were quite a pair alluded to being tied at the heart.

I think the eagle was named only once, in the prologue, and I don't remember the name either. Aside from the lush art, one of the powerful things about the film is the lack of speech. We're accustomed to the convention of anthropomorphizing animals with human speech, and that entire film has none of it. Even so, it tells an elaborate story with complex relationships and character development.

Loved that movie when I finally saw it. It was a real sleeper here, meaning that it didn't get the rave reviews I thought it deserved (neither did Balto, which amazed me). We've gone through three dvd's at work, plus a couple of vhs', so it's become a favorite among patrons as well. Themes work for the kids as well as the adults.

And yes, I liked the meme, and posted my own.

Balto is certainly in my top 20 or so, though I actually prefer the sequel, Wolf Quest. Close tie between the latter and Brother Bear for my second favorite "furry" film. I think the main reason these films took so long to really get attention is that they weren't Disney. That means that the amount spent on pre-release publicity was far less, and they didn't build into box office smashes in the first couple of weeks. Watership Down is another example of that. Superb art work and scripting, hardly noticed when new, but now an enduring classic. People see it and say "How did I miss this?"

Is Wolf Quest actually any good? I've never seen it, but liked Balto.

Wolf Quest is different, quite different. It's about a spirit quest, more or less in native American style. Balto and Jenna have puppies, all the puppies find homes except the one female who looks like a wolf. No humans want a wolf. She goes looking for her wolf relatives, and Balto follows, sure she'll end up in trouble. They do find the wolves, but not quite as expected and with an interesting outcome. I don't want to spoil it for you, but I recommend it certainly.
