Rustic plaid scarf

Thanks. It sat on the loom for months after I started it, while I did "more important" stuff. By the time I came back to it last week, I wasn't sure I had enough yarn or that I remembered what the leading edge looked like, since it was already rolled onto the beam and hidden. I think the results are successful, though. It's quite pleasing to the touch, which I find important in a scarf.

Dang, that's nice looking. I'd wear something like that instead of one of the cashmere scarves I have to go with my overcoat. I suspect it'd be a lot more comfy in winter.

Thank you. Cashmere should be soft and warm, though. I'm spinning some right now that I'll probably knit into a lacy scarf of some sort. This scarf is a bit heavier, so might be warmer, but your climate is generally milder than ours in winter. In any case, the intent on this one was to produce a "masculine" design without being too dull looking, so I'm glad you find it attractive.

I don't often wear the cashmere/wool overcoat since it's kind of a pain to drive while wearing it, but I do try to get it out of the closet a half dozen or so times every winter. It pretty much requires a scarf.

The cashmere scarves are indeed soft. They're fairly 'dressy looking' too, which is nice in some situations. At least one of mine has a bad habit of shedding a bit, though, leaving linty-ish fluff on my dress shirts.

For less formal every day type wear, I think your scarf'd look kind of nice with an overcoat. Kind of something one would wear to work and leave the cashmere scarves for wearing to parties or functions.

It certainly looks comfortable! Blue and grey is one of my favorite color combinations.

Isn't it too warm for scarves where you live?

Yep. I like wool for scarves but it has to be soft. This is almost velvety and I may brush it a bit to increase that quality.

What? Can't a guy just want to look fashionable? ;)

Actually, Atlanta gets plenty of freezing weather. Although our total annual snowfall is a meager 1/2", we'll go for weeks at a time with daytime temps in the 30's with nights in the teens or 20's. Yeah, it's nothing compared to your winters, but combined with our high humidity it makes for a cold that cuts through you like a knife.

Winter-wise, Atlanta seems to be in a weird place. Despite our frequent freezing temps, we rarely get snow. We'll either have freezing weather or wet weather, but they hardly ever show up at the same time. South Georgia gets more snow than we do. As a result, Atlantans are never, ever prepared for when we do get our annual dusting of snow. Merely mentioning the word will cause riots.

I'm already wearing insulated gloves and a wool scarf while riding my motorcycle to work in the mornings.

Oh yeah. I forgot about the motorcycle. Yes, that's absolutely the coldest I have ever been in my life, after riding a motorcycle 60 miles in cold weather. It was in the 30s and not raining, and I thought I was dressed warmly enough, but I had the shivers for an hour after I arrived.

I had a friend on the back of my bike and had given him my scarf because it was quite nippy out. When we got home I asked him for it back, and he said it blew off on the highway. He was too scared to move to try to keep it on he told me. Jeez.

Very pretty, btw. Love plaid. The one I lost was wool and was a green/cream combo.

I wrap the scarf around my neck, even covering my chin and mouth. Then I put on the jacket and full-head helmet, making sure the scarf is tucked in good and tight inside the jacket and helmet. I'd be more than a little upset if I lost my golden cream cashmere one.

*giggles at the idea of bikers wearing cashmere scarves*

Well, OK, I won't tell on you. XD

*humming Sharp Dressed Man* Ah, but everything goes with black.

My bike's but a happy memory now. :o)

Darn right everything goes with black. Especially if it's black leather! ;)

I'm sorry to hear that the bike is but a memory. Hopefully things ended on a good note and not with you sliding across the asphalt?

I fully believe mine will be going away in a year or so once we can afford a new car.

No, I rode for a few years after my little slide. Thankfully had that black leather jacket, and gloves, and full cover helmet, too.

I sold the bike out of practicality. I wasn't using it and the money ended up going toward a truck-load of wallboard and other items to finish off the upstairs in my house.

Thanks! ;)

I like to think I'm a very practical biker. Cashmere is *warm*! The fact that it's also soft and attractive is just a bonus.

Hey that looks very spiffy, I'm always a sucker for a pattern like that in calmer colour tones.

Thanks. Unfortunately it will show cat hair quickly. You'd need one made out of kitty fluff.

Thanks. Sometimes simple can be very effective. Rigid heddle loom, plain weave, nothing to it but the doing.
