Last night it was raining when it wasn't supposed to do that. Tonight it isn't raining when the weather forecast says it should be. Rain was to have started in the afternoon, in fact, but so far nothing. It was clear enough to see the moon at sunset, though there was a fair amount of haze at the horizons.

Trilliums are now blooming, and none are lying down on the job. I guess I did the splitting and transplanting adequately well. While walking Tess out to the pasture and later back, I noticed a couple of small spots of garlic mustard, which I gleefully ripped up. (Invasive weed, for those who don't know it.) After all the chores were done, it was still light so I thought about the garlic mustard I carefully removed from the front yard last summer. I should go check and see if it has come back.

The good news: It had not returned. I'd pulled several clumps from among the roots of large oak trees.

The bad news: There is ten times more of it this year, just in a different spot. Apparently a couple of plants went to seed hidden among the shrubbery on the south side of the house. There's a veritable forest of the stuff in the grass around there. I was too discouraged to start pulling, but it all needs to go before it can produce seeds. Burning would be ideal, but that close to the house I'm not going to consider it.

Rushed last night and this morning to finish up a couple hundred yards of cotton that was on my portable spinning wheel, since I wanted to take it to the study group meeting this afternoon and work on the current assignment which calls for fine wool. Got that done, then the meeting was called off due to the fact that one other person and I would have been the only ones there. Oh well. So I can get a head start and have something to show off by next month's meeting, I guess.

Work was deserted this morning (library is closed) except for me, myself, and I. Spent nearly two hours debugging what seemed to be a hardware problem affecting one terminal on the multi-user internet system. Finally discovered that a cold start of the entire system cleared it up. Reportedly someone plugged a funky USB flash drive into that station late Tuesday and it locked up. No one thought to tell me until 24 hours later. Anyway, it's fixed for the moment.

Gary's staying overnight in Chicago for the first time in weeks. His school term is almost over and he's caught up on all his work at last. I find I'm not particularly enjoying being here alone, though. Well, not alone. There are horses, sheep, ducks, dogs, cats, fish, and crickets here too. And lots of plush. But I want the one who isn't here...

An "Oh, by the way..." moment.
