Managed to stifle most of the distractions this afternoon.

Consequence: 3500 words, and quite possibly another thousand or so before bed.

Still writing backwards, from the end back toward the developments that unfold the mystery plots. So far it looks like it will work, at least for producing a draft. Why not? I know how it is supposed to end in this case. Quite precisely in fact. So there shouldn't be any harm in writing the end first, even if it is sort of like eating dessert before the main course. I hope.

Hay supposed to be arriving at 7 am tomorrow. Another distraction, alas.

How much hay are you loading in? I haven't thrown hay since college, and wonder just how many bales I could toss now (actually, I hate to admit just how few bales it would be). Certainly was good exercise :o)

Keep clicking away at the story!

I think we have about 350 bales in now and are looking for another 300-400. I mostly get blisters on my hands from tossing 200 bales at once. I hate wearing gloves though, so I put up with the blisters.

I hope this delivery is punctual. The first load from this place came right when they said it would, but the second was two and a half hours late. I'd rather get the hay done early so I can work on the writing now that I've got it moving.

A lot of writers pen the ending first.

I've never done it that way before, but it is at least getting words out. On the other hoof, I can see that a lot more final editing will be needed to get the pieces back in the proper order and all the bits tied up properly.

Horses for courses. I'd say mystery stories are a good candidate for something that might make sense to write backwards. As long as you can keep the plot straight in your mind, giddy-up!

Still going to need more editing later than I like, but yeah, it seems to work.

It takes all three to make a story. What's the joke if you only know the punchline? We actually see that in this tale, where Francis wasn't paying attention when Win was telling a joke, and he only hears the punchline but can't really ask for the rest to be repeated.

"So the rabbit looks at the coyote and says, 'I couldn't find the keyhole,'"
