Too many things happened just before 5 pm. A massive thunderstorm hit just north of the state line, with lightning displays visible through the glass wall at the north side of the building. Then the power dropped to almost nothing for about a second, enough to reboot most equipment that wasn't on UPSes. The circulation desk lost networked access to the library system, which always causes panic. Servers shut down as directed by UPS systems. Everyone went into panic mode and forgot the steps they needed to follow, leaving me to pull it all back together.
Found that my login that is authorized to close down hung sessions on the main server is apparently not valid. Or else we had so many hung sessions that I couldn't start one. Took a while to sort that out, and in the midst of it all, a call from Alberta (up in Canada) about the issues with Userful. (Now an open problem for five days going on six. They've "solved" it repeatedly but none of their solutions work. I guess I shouldn't be surprised, as another issue has been an open problem for months now.)
Oh, and two book shipments arrived, and five new computers to be set up, and the Summer Reading Club announcement wants to be on the website "now." Once I got the power issue sorted out, I went home. The rest can wait.
