Who'da thunk it?
Jul. 18th, 2010 10:30 pmWell, actually, I've been sore from spinning before, and quite recently. But what I felt this morning was remarkable in the degree of stiffness. Fortunately, it has mostly worn off. I filled all the bobbins I had with me yesterday, which will come to at least 400-500 yards at a guess. Although the exercise isn't that vigorous, carrying it on continuously for hours still takes a toll. Sore calf muscles, stiff shoulders. Especially the left. Both hands are active in spinning, so there isn't really a right-handed or left-handed way of doing it. But you can still be a mirror image, and some people (even right-handed ones) reverse the role of the hands from what I use. In any case, I draft with my left hand when spinning woolen or cotton style. And that's what I was doing yesterday, which involves making long gestures at arm's length away and slightly behind the line of the shoulder. It's very efficient, but not a natural movement. Sort of a less vigorous version of pitching a ball left-handed.
Xubuntu is working mostly. I have some odd glitches, most notably in sound. The sound works, at least with video or streaming audio. But when I play an MP3 audio file, regardless of which application does it, the sound "skips" ahead every few seconds, leaving chunks out. Very odd. In my past experience, either sound worked or it was silent. This is a new one, and only affects MP3 files as far as I can tell. I wonder if the files were damaged in the backup and restore... Not a nice thought. Doesn't help that my old favorite player xmms has been morphed into xmms2, something quite different and unusable in my estimation.
So. Another work week looms on the horizon, and this one is punctuated by a fursuit appearance on Thursday. It did not rain today, even though we'd mostly have welcomed it.
