That was some drenching. Alas, much of it will run off before it can sink into the ground. Areas around Chicago got as much as 8 inches of rain overnight. We got nearly three here, but the real feature of the weather pattern was the thunder and lightning. It went on for hours, a constant rumble rising to occasional roars. I haven't experienced anything quite like that in many years.

Gary canceled some of his activities due to them being outdoors and it was still raining and rumbling this morning. It stopped and got muggy in the afternoon, and that condition still prevails now, well after sunset.

I didn't get as much done as I should have either. Well, there's still tomorrow. I should schedule a real vacation so I can do things. What a concept.

Yes, it needs slow and steady rain to do the most good. Cloudbursts help rather less. I think we must've had a brief shower here last night, but the ground's going to take a lot more than that before it starts to soften up.
