Still knitting

Making progress, but more needed.

Listening to an audiobook version of Watership Down while knitting. I've been listening to Joseph Conrad's Lord Jim in the car, but that's too intense for me to listen to while doing a confusing lacework pattern.

Sarah's bandage is off today, as an experiment. If she licks and chews at the spot too much, it may have to go back on. Gary found a spray on "sealant" made for use on dogs and cats that has a bad tasting additive to discourage licking, and we're trying that.

Gloomy and drippy all day until 4 pm or so, which means Tess never got to go out. She's going to be grumpy about it tomorrow.

Had to snicker at the gas station this morning when I stopped to refill my car's tank. They (Shell) were pushing their credit card with the promise of a 5 cent per gallon discount. In the fine print, though, they tell you that there's a minimum monthly purchase of (I think it was) 50 gallons and the discount only applies to the first 100 gallons each month. Are there that many people who use more than 100 gallons of gas a month? I don't even use the minimum 50 gallons to get the discount.

Most of us are content with putting on background music, and you listen to "Watership Down" while knitting? Never mind Joseph Conrad - *that* is what I call intense.

Ah, but I find "background" music much more distracting than reading. Music that I like is much too absorbing. I have to really listen to it. Music that I don't like is irritating. I generally prefer silence over background music.

Words I can process while counting stitches. This scarf has a simple alternation of two rows. One of them is complex, the other simple:

Row 1: k2, kfb, k2tog, *(yo, k2, sl2, k1, psso, k2, yo, k2), rep from * once, sl2, k1, psso, k2, yo, ssk, kfb, k2.

Row 2: k3, p29, k3.

I always say that computer programming was invented long before computers. Weavers and knitters are familiar with many of the basic principles. XD

50 gallons a month?! Even whhen I was in work (and commuting sixty miles a day) I wasn't usually using more than 35 in a month. Mind, US gallons are smaller, so I guess I might, in a busy month, maybe, get to the minimum 50.

My commute is a 30 mile round trip, five times a week. In a typical week, I only make one other trip by car, for grocery shopping. I just checked the spreadsheet and found that my average monthly consumption of fuel is around 26 US gallons. With prices what they've been the last few years, I can't imagine using 100 gallons a month.
