County Fair concludes

And here are my results. (Click thumbnail for larger view.) The premium check really just covered the entry fees, travel cost, and two admissions. I don't know what to do with the ribbons, really, though they are nice ones. Some items were already in the guild show last October, but most are new this year and will be entered again this fall.

Weather has been iffy all day. This morning it got dark as night for a while, then thundered and eventually dribbled. Just dribbled, but for almost two hours. Total rainfall was only a quarter of an inch according to our gauge.

Mosquitoes continue to be ferocious, nearly intolerable. I kept Tess in because of the rain and the mosquitoes, even though I know she'll be grumpy about it.

Now off to make supper. Finished the guild newsletter this morning, so the evening is really all free after dinner is done. Amazing.

Every entry got a ribbon, but I think it was partly due to a poor showing. The competition was thin, in other words.

We're really dry here, but the good thing is that we have fewer mosquitoes due to the lack of standing water. Now if only the deer flies would vanish.

Nice set of ribbons. I recognize that linoleum pattern, too, in the background. My parents used that in their kitchen.

I think the vinyl floor is original to the house, ca. 1976 or so. It needs replacing, really, but isn't a high priority for me. We aren't house proud, so it doesn't much matter. We have dogs and cats, so anything that can be mopped up will do.

Grats, Tivo! You know, you can always recycle the ribbons. Knit them into a tapestry of your past and present County Fair achievements. But then I wouldn't know if that would be admissible to your guild show. :P

Back when ribbons were really of woven satin, yes, you could do a lot of peculiar things with them, like making them into quilts and stuff. Now they are made of acetate, and will not separate into individual fibers or withstand any kind of washing or heat. Strictly for show.
