Oh, on another topic, I actually went ahead and dyed my two skeins of wool last night. I'm pleased with the color, but they are still damp so no photo yet.

I guess I'm some sort of computer geek if I recognize Grace Hopper, the computer programming pioneer, just by the image... :-)

Yup, that's Grace all right. My grandmother was a pioneering spirit too, though she was a farmer, gardener, and something of an entrepreneur.

She was a good person. Kinda batty at times, independent, and a stubborn old German, but she always tried to do what she thought was the right thing. I thought about finding a picture of her maiden name, but it was Himmelwright, originally Himmelreich, an old German word for "Kingdom of God" and that was just too much of a stretch. ;p

My first degree is "Religious Studies" (all religions, as symbolized by the image) and then I actually attended an Anglican seminary for a while.

Interesting. It's amazing how different our past choices are to what we ended up doing. I was considering acting as a career before I fell into IT. I did not want to subject myself to the competition of the acting world. Spending ages trying to get noticed, and losing out to someone who cannot act but looks the part.

Well, as it happened, I fell into comparative religion mostly as an overreaction to the veterinary science curriculum. I set out to be a vet, and was doing fine (better than fine) gradewise, but the advisors finally exceeded my tolerance for their complaints when I chose literature and language courses as electives. They kept saying I would "spoil my grade average" which would keep me out of professional school. There was no evidence that this was true, of course, but I got miffed enough to backlash into the freeforall of liberal arts. I had also spent my first summer vacation from school working in a local clinic with a vet who was way out on the right wing fringe politically and you can guess how well that sat with me. He liked cats, didn't like dogs, and his treatment of canines when their owners couldn't see him was just shy of abusive. In fact, sometimes it crossed that line in my opinion. It left me with a negative feeling about the profession that didn't wear off for years.

Hmm. Y'know, I've never said this in public. It was more than 40 years ago that this all took place. I know that the fellow I worked for is dead now, in fact, and in any case, no one but my immediate family would possibly remember his name, so why have I held back on it for so long?

Oh, those landscape pictures are nice! And the horses are very pretty. *smiles* It somehow reminded me of this picture, too, probably due to the colors.

And I love that dog's eye.

Number 2 is somewhere unspecified in British Columbia. Number 3 is in Isle Royale National Park, an island in Lake Superior and I've actually been there. Number 9 is up in the Marengo Ridge preserve, just a couple of miles from here. The dog is a husky, and I would have used a full face image but that would have confused the color issue, so the eye was a compromise.

Yeah, I took a look at the full picture... she's looking quite old already to me, but she's still pretty.

Well, I think in many cases, huskies are proof of the idea that brains and looks don't mix very well. ;D

*chuckles* Might well be. ^^ They do seem to have a bit of a reputation, at least, but I've never had one or really interacted with one over a longer period of time.
