A weekend that isn't

Like the red queen, I feel as if I'm running as fast as I can just to stay in one place.

Tomorrow will be more of the same. I will probably not go to the Pioneer Festival with Gary and Rob since if I did, there would be no time to get animal chores done, etc. I think I could go with them if I did all those chores AND made stuff to take to the potluck tonight, all before 9 am. Possible, but unlikely. Or I'd be so tired I wouldn't enjoy the festival...

An interesting thing seems to be happening with Simon. I knew that Sarah had more or less become the alpha dog when she arrived, though they seemed to get along well enough and play together and all that. But now that she's gone, he's starting to wake up again. No, he hasn't found the fountain of youth or anything like that, but he's much more aware of his surroundings and what is going on. He clearly still sees and hears more than we thought, for instance.

Sounds like Simon was just waiting for his chance, that's always a good strategy, never let everyone know just what you can see, hear and think ;)

Beardies are noted for their subtle intellects. They are such clowns when young that people tend to overlook their brains and think they aren't that smart. You're probably right.

Yeah well I have that feline suspicion of the canine race, I'm sure they're cleverer than they appear :D

We have two dogs, a younger and an older, and in a sterile sense we cycle through them such that when one passes another is brought home and we're never without at least the one here. I've seen that personality shift a couple of times, like a dormant program that kicks in when the conditions are right. Our current elder went from docility to keenness at the passing of his mentor dog.

Hope Simon is taking it all well.

Simon is tottering along. No one can deny that he's geriatric these days, but he doesn't seem to miss Sarah at all the way I'd expected. When his previous buddy, a huge golden retriever, left us similarly due to cancer, he was definitely upset.

I have some concern about how he'll get on if we bring a rough and tumble puppy into the mix, but I suspect he'll surprise us.
