Here's Red!
Dec. 10th, 2010 06:18 amNot the best photos, but for the curious, here are a couple of snaps I took of our new adopted dog this morning, when neither he nor I was quite fully awake. So far he's been very well behaved and eager to be with us.

Fuzzy because the flash didn't go off, but then he's fuzzy anyway (yuk yuk.) We pulled the crate in from the barn for him because his foster mom recommended it, but haven't really used it other than to ask him to go into it, which he does willingly and now has done on his own once just to lie down on the blanket. Because he will "counter surf" for unprotected edible items, he may have to be crated for brief periods.

"Wake me when the coffee's ready." It was not yet 6 am. Just for scale, the white object above his head is a 5 cubic foot refrigerator that Gary converted to a dough warming box for bread baking. Red is a big guy, about 95 pounds and tall enough that you can scratch his ears without leaning over.

Date: 2010-12-10 04:19 pm (UTC)Sandy said she was baking and turned her back long enough for him to swipe a quarter pound of butter and swallow it, paper wrapping and all. She put another one out to soften and he made that disappear as well. That we can deal with, being forewarned.
If he has the inclination to "disembowel" plush toys, though, I'm going to have a problem to handle. I have too many of them to keep them all out of reach, probably. So far, though, he's shown no interest. I warned Gary that he shouldn't buy any plush covered dog toys, just to avoid any confusion.

Date: 2010-12-10 05:45 pm (UTC)I feel bad about shucking an animal from one home to another just when they're starting to feel settled in, but Sandy (a retired librarian, by the way) fosters one dog after another for just this purpose. She said most stay with her for less than six weeks. He'll have a lot less competition at our place, and more room to play outdoors.

Date: 2010-12-20 04:59 pm (UTC)Max sniffed for unattended food, too, and was much stealthier than you would expect from such a big dog. We miss him. Glad you found more doggie love!
