But the weather for the weekend does not look good. Right now I'm inclined to cancel all activities tomorrow (two holiday parties) due to weather and my own grumpy mood. The weather does look bad. Wisconsin is on a winter storm watch, the counties west of us are on a blizzard watch, and we have a winter weather watch so far.

Tomorrow starts with freezing rain, changing to rain from early morning to mid-afternoon, then back to freezing drizzle and finally snow. Two to four inches, which isn't a lot but we still have about three on the ground. Then Sunday is to be windy and bitterly cold with wind chills down to -10F daytime and -25F nighttime.

I have Monday off work to do bird counting, which will be miserable in weather that cold. I suspect we won't put in the whole day.

Add the fact that my windshield washers aren't working suddenly. They might be out of fluid but I think front and back share the same reservoir and the rear one works. Might be frozen, though it hasn't been that cold today, just barely under freezing and I don't add water to the solution anyway, but use it straight as it comes from the retailer.

Oh, and Red is doing fine. Got into no serious trouble all day, even when left alone. He will sleep on the sofa or our bed if he has access, but we don't really mind that. He's almost got the dog door figured out, and will go through it if encouraged but hasn't done it by himself yet. He also goes to sleep in his crate voluntarily, without being asked to go in there and with the door left wide open. Either he likes the blanket in there or has already figured out that it's his space.

Thought for the day:

If your dog jumps up on the bed with you, it's because he likes being with you. If your cat jumps up on the bed with you, it's because she likes your bed.

The cold dreary weather doesn't sound like much fun. Here the snow is melting, but has stayed around rather longer than we'd usually expect, and the garden's taken a flattening...

It's funny how many people automatically tend to think of dogs as male and cats as female, isn't it? (I do it, too.)

Grammatically speaking, it's "der Hund" and "die Katze", so it's the same. I'd wager a guess that the grammatical genders are both a result of and an influence on how people perceive dogs and cats, in terms of the genders typically associated with them.
