And more snow

It's snowing again. Has been for a couple of hours, fluffy stuff mostly but an inch has accumulated. As long as this goes on, the temperature is not dropping to the nasty level predicted however, so I'll take the snow.

We drove through the snow to go to Red's obedience class. Tonight they played with agility equipment: jumps, the dogwalk|boardwalk, the tunnel, and the table. Then each dog went through the simplified course off leash. Red actually did fairly well. He needs more focus, but he got through all the different items after a try or two. He seemed to like the tunnel and the table, but still has some difficulty with the boardwalk.

One more class left in this sequence, where they will go over the various tests in the Canine Good Citizen certificate. That will be a good exercise in itself. His second class, "Agility Conditioning," starts on Wednesday. In this one they are training the owner as much as the dog, on body language, terminology, and approaches to the utility equipment. Gary will be taking Red by himself, as I have to work on Wednesday evenings, but they should do fine. Red is very easy to take in the car, and remains calm while traveling.

All the mail that backed up during the blizzard is starting to move. I got five book shipments today at work. Four of them are now past me, cataloged, labeled, ready to go. The fifth (and largest) is waiting for tomorrow.

Gary is baking English muffins on the griddle (made from scratch, he's getting quite good at it) and then we can go to bed. I'm ready.

Gad floods and cyclones down here and lots of snow and blizzards up there!

We may get the floods this coming weekend. The current subzero trend is supposed to break into temperatures well above freezing. When all this snow starts to melt, things will get messy. Even though we're on elevated ground, ice dams and snow piles slow the draining water from the snowmelt and it pools in unexpected places. Two years ago we had repeated floods in one of the barns, for instance.

This season has included the third largest single snowfall in our area since 1886 when the record keeping began. It has now broken a record as the fourth year in a row with more than 50 inches of snowfall in a single season. There have never been more than three such years recorded in sequence before. I start to wonder if I should get some huskies and a sled.

Homemade English muffins? That sounds tasty. :D

Good luck with all the snow. Round three for us is coming in late tonite/early tomorrow. We're supposed to get upwards of 6" again and if it is anything like last time it will shut this area down.

They aren't difficult, but he uses sourdough so it takes the better part of 24 hours to make them. The last step is to form them into the English muffin shape, let them rise, and brown the outside on an ungreased griddle.

I'd take more snow over the current temperatures. Positive single digits for the next three days, negative double digits at night. Then by the weekend, things are supposed to start melting and all hell will break loose.

Yes, they are supposed to be sourdough. Most commercial ones sold in the US are made with ordinary yeast, though and have sourdough flavoring added.
