The Dubious Duplex

I've been watching this situation develop for several days. Our repeated attempts to discourage the fox from digging here failed. And of course, that left a nice pile of loose spoils that were just so inviting to Mr. Chippie. I'm afraid the little guy is in for a nasty surprise soon, though.

The library was a zoo today, and I don't mean that in a good way. After being closed yesterday, we were faced with hordes of demanding children who wanted their summer reading gelt. The noise was incredible, accompanied by not a few adult temper tantrums as well.

Oh, and I saw a young red-headed woodpecker fly across the road in front of me this morning. Only about a mile from our place, so it's good to know they are nesting somewhere in the area. This one was nearly full grown already, but had dark brown feathers on his head. I guess they won't turn the trademark red color until the next molt.

Hah, that's great :o) I'm shocked to see the rabbits and fox here move about in the same spaces regardless of one another. Nothing like the duplex, though.

Yes, business was brisk at the library today here as well. We averaged 100 patrons an hour up til one of the children yanked the counter off it's post (a daily occurrence that I'm unable to stop). Parent's ignore the kids completely at checkout, and I'm surprised we have any live fish left in the tank across from the Circ desk (fishy! fishy! Fishy!! *thump thump thump).

We have the same problem with the door counter. It has little flashing red and green LEDs on it, and seems to be an attractive nuisance.

They also tend to move furniture so that it blocks the reflector at the other end of the light beam, shutting off the count. Worst though was the time someone stole the reflector completely. Just snapped it right off the bracket and took it away.

Wow, that duplex is certainly quite the estate! Good views, bigger neighbors... oh, and you don't have to worry bout life insurance!

No need for a cemetery plot or prepaid funeral arrangements either. ;p

The chipmunk population here is in a sudden peak. We've never seen so many of them in the time we've lived here, and I suspect that in turn is increasing the fox, owl, and hawk numbers. Oddly enough, just a mile or two away people complain about coyotes all the time, but we don't see any evidence of the 'yotes here. Instead we're starting to have to watch for all the fox scat so we don't step in it. It's everywhere. They've been eating the not-quite-ripe mulberries too, which makes it particularly sticky.
