I promised photos of the railway museum last week. They are loaded (finally) and can be seen starting with this one:

And that's the Boone County Pioneer Festival in Spencer Park:



That's a photo taken in one of the restored cabins in the park. The re-enactor is making butter by shaking cream up in a preserving jar (yes, that works, but it takes about 20 minutes.) I apologize that things seem to be in no particular order. The Flickr uploader sometimes does that to me and I haven't figured out any way to resequence them.

Gloomy, cold, rainy, windy day here. Looks like more of the same for the next week or so. There's been a major geomagnetic storm today, with radio disrupted etc. If you have clear skies anywhere in North America, you might want to check for aurora to the north around midnight or so.

The Flickr uploader sorts files by modification date; if they're straight out of the camera, they'll usually be in the right order, but if you edited some, they won't. You can easily rearrange them in the organizer, though — sets, at least. There's no way of rearranging your photostream short of deleting and reuploading in the right order.

Thanks for the tip. I was sure I had tried to resequence photos within a set before and didn't succeed, but I'll look at it again.

Curiously I encountered an exhibition of model tramways at the museum I visited on Sunday. The layouts were, not surprisingly, mostly based on English locations.

Makes sense. These, of course, are the real thing. Get on and ride them. The museum has miles of track and catenary. On a typical weekend, there is one electric and one Diesel (or if you're lucky, steam) train out on the mainline (6 miles or so.) But the interior of the grounds has trolley tracks and roads with overhead lines for electric buses. The buses don't run very often, but there's always at least one old trolley running shuttle between the car barns. Admission grants you an all day ticket to ride as much as you like.

Cool. The London Transport Museum has static displays of a few old trams and trolley busses, but nothing running.

Of course, in Britain you still have real trains that people can ride. Here, except for a few cities, we have almost none. In fact, probably more people have ridden a horse or in a horse-drawn conveyance than have ridden in a railroad coach. Amtrak is alive (barely) but serves only a few routes and relatively few riders as a result.
