A weekend with no fixed schedule. Well, at least, none for me. Gary's Sunday morning is taken up with church stuff, and of course all the usual weekend chores apply, like getting the groceries, feeding the critters, etc. Weather looks decent enough for outdoor activities, schedule is relaxed enough to allow most things, at least near to home.

Got the Ubuntu Netbook edition replaced with Linux Mint LXDE "Katya" without any special difficulties. It did need a lot of updates on top of the distribution ISO, though. I took it to work today to apply those using the T1 connection. There were 87 updates or patches. And then I had packages I wanted to add to the default set, including DOSBox, wine, calibre, and LibreOffice word processor, among other things. Everything was straightforward except, for some reason, getting Ubuntu One working to synchronize notes and small files between the three machines I use. In the end it turned out that the Linux Mint software manager has some sort of problem with Ubuntu One, but if you use plain Synaptic to install the client it works. And indeed, that did the trick. Turns out I don't have a lot of personal files to restore, since I have been keeping stuff "in the cloud" where possible, using Google Docs, and so forth. There are a few things I need to bring back from the archive I made, but nothing urgent. Two silly things to get used to: the application menu pops up from the lower left corner rather than dropping down from the upper left as it did in Ubuntu (and still does on my two desktop machines) and the Firefox is version 7 instead of 3.6.x which means it looks different and controls have moved around unexpectedly. Took the opportunity to rearrange partitions on the pseudo-disk drive, since I had some space difficulties with my original Ubuntu set up. Now the excess free space is where it can be taken up by /usr or by /home as needed. Since I had my music files stored on an SD card, those didn't need archiving or restoring.
