OK, guys, it's March. Enough already.

The bad weather forecast was more or less accurate this time. Started to drizzle around 1:30, and gradually mixed with sleet, ice balls, then snow, then heavy sticky little snowballs by 4:00. Visibility declined to less than 100 feet about then. I was told I could go home, and I didn't hesitate for long. I did not want to drive in that after dark.

Roads were terrible. People actually slowed down on the state highway, to under 30 mph, And they allowed safe stopping distance, no tailgating. This was a miracle unheard of. I saw no one in the ditch on the way home, which was also a miracle considering conditions. Nothing seemed to have been plowed, though there were about four inches of heavy, wet snow on the roads. It took me an hour to get home rather than the usual 20 minutes, but at least there were no skids or scary moments. I haven't seen driving conditions this bad in about seven years or so. Last time I remember, they actually closed part of highway 23, forcing me to detour around the closure. And I still had my Jeep, so it was a bit less intimidating.

Gary wasn't back from rehearsal yet, so I started animal care chores by myself. I was relieved when he pulled into the drive before I had finished. Everything was coated with heavy, sticky snow. Pretty, but dangerous. Tree branches break and fall, or a gust of wind drops 25 pounds of slush on your head. I could hear slush balls hitting the arena roof as I worked out there.

We hurried supper for fear the power would drop out again, but it stayed on. Snow has stopped now, but the stuff will be frozen to ice by morning and even more treacherous. Anyway, all safe here for the present. Going to bed.

The weather's really weird here. Yesterday: spring warmth. Today: snowy winter.

I say this because yesterday, I saw your post and thought "whew, at least it isn't like that here". But then nature played us all a trick :)
