Dead tree falls on the horse yard gate. Asher and Archie hardly looked up from eating their hay, but barn cat Delta rushed in to take credit for the "kill." We were eating breakfast (pumpkin pancakes, in fact) when it all happened right before our very eyes. Window in dining room faces the horse barns.

I love living in the oak Savannah. Poison ivy and all. Our living oaks are pushing 90 feet or more in some cases. There are a few elms, hickories, and black walnuts mixed in, and a line of old wild cherry that crosses the property east to west at what must have been a fence line some time.

We let stuff lie when it falls in the woodlots, but obviously have to clear fences and access lanes as well as the creek that runs through. Maples drop big branches on the house once in a while, but so far no serious damage. [crosses hooves] Several big oaks could threaten barns, and one of those is dead. I figure the damage repairs wouldn't be more than the cost of removing the tree because of the location.
