Asher's new blanket

Cold and rainy this morning, so we went ahead and put Asher's blanket on him. I expected him to have some objections, but he did not. Just stood calmly while I dropped it over him and fastened the various buckles. When I opened the door and let him out into the yard he shares with his brother Archie, he just walked out calmly and started eating hay.

Archie, however, did have objections when I let him out. He kept snorting and sniffing and backing away from Asher, who ignored his brother and kept on eating. Eventually they settled it and I looked out a bit later to see them standing shoulder to shoulder and sharing the hay as usual. So much for that worry.

Four hours later, the blanket remains intact and properly in place. It's waterproof, but the rain has stopped and it looks dry on the outside now. No mud yet, though I'm sure at some point Asher will roll in the mud with it as is his usual habit. Perhaps not today though. Just a couple more hours and they go back indoors.

Replaced both today's link and the Nov. 9th link with "embed" commands. Those seem to work for me, but I have to click on the little icon to get it to expand. I don't know what's going on with Dreamwidth here. Just posting the shared link as an img ref= used to work just fine.

It's well constructed, as far as I can tell, and seems to fit. He appears to like it enough that he makes no fuss about having it put on, which is a big plus. I had omitted the leg straps thinking he wouldn't care for those, but late yesterday he got it all twisted sideways. I think he tried to roll in it. So this morning I added the back leg elastics and he made no fuss about those either. He stood perfectly still while I put the whole contraption onto him and adjusted the velcro and buckles.

He does seem to learn fast about things that make him more comfortable. He is prone to heaves in high heat and humidity or when there's a lot of dust in the air. He quickly learned that letting me dose him with medicine by squirting it onto his tongue makes the discomfort go away and his breathing easier. Now when he has an attack, he cooperates completely in taking the meds. Even hangs his head out of the stall when he sees the plastic syringe.

Clothes horse is cute. ^_^ Flickr embed html always works for me, but I always chop off the data-flickr-embed="true" and the script async src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js" charset="utf-8" /script parts as they weren't there 10 years ago and I'm suspicious as to why it's part of the embed html.

Yeah, he's cute, and a sweet ol' guy too. That's why I'm doing everything I can to keep him happy and comfortable for as long as possible.

I went ahead and ordered the same blanket for his half-brother Archie, but in red plaid. He may be a bit more fussy about wearing it, but winter is coming on now and neither of them is so young and spry any more.
